This document discusses electrical symbols used in schematic drawings and provides examples. It introduces metric prefixes and scientific notation used to write very large and small values in engineering. It explains that prefixes like kilo are placed before a unit to indicate multiplication, such as 1 kilogram being equal to 1000 grams. As an example, it shows converting 304,212 volts to kilovolts by moving the decimal place three spots left to 304.212 kv. It then lists various electrical symbols like outlets, switches, circuit breakers and more.

– In engineering, some very large and very small values are used. To make writing of these numbers easier use of a prefix is made. A prefix which is placed before the root of the word. The prefix gives a value with which the value must be multiplied. Each prefix has a unique symbol that is write before a certain unit. Using the prefix kilo for example, may be added to gram to indicate multiplication by one thousand; one kilogram is equal to one thousand grams. • Example 304,212 volts in terms of kilovolts. From none place to kilo place on the number line is 3 places (powers of ten) to the left, so just move the decimal point 3 places to the left, and add the word “kilo” in the original unit volt. 304,212 volts = 304.212 kilo+volts=304.212kv Outlet drop cord fan outlet Junction Box Lamp Holder Lamp holder with Pull Switch Pull Switch Vapor Discharge Switch Exit Outlet Single Pole Switch Double Pole Switch Three way switch Four Way Switch Automatic Door Switch Electrouer Switch Switch and Pilot Lamp Key Operated Switch Circuit Breaker Clock Outlet Blanked Outlet Duplex Convenience Outlet Single, Triplex, etc. Range Outlet Switch and Convenience Outlet Special Purpose Outlet Floor Outlet Weather Proof Circuit Breaker Momentary Contact Switch Remote Control Switch Weather Proof Switch Fused Switch Weather Proof Fused Switch Lighting Power Power Panel SYSMBOLS USED IN ELETRICAL SCHEMATIC DRAWING S QUARE BOX JUNCTION BOX UTILITY BOX
