What is school?
School is , based on lay understanding,
the place where students get regular
education.
School is one of the five social
institutions in sociology. It is the most
influential institution in shaping
human behavior, next to Family.
Many psychologists, who studied child
development (human development) set
a stage named “School Age” . This
shows how school is big. (It is also
known that there is a concept named
‘School Life’.
In USA, on average, every person
spends his 15% of life in school the life
expectancy being 79. NASW recently
ordered that every school has to hire at
least one social worker for every 250

discuss the other social institutions and
their relation with school
 Take time and reflect on what ‘School
Life’ Means
 Take time, mention and briefly discuss
at least one of the theories and theorist
who/which mentions a school age. In
addition, discuss the theory of Sigmund
Freud in relation to school

 Listen to Habtamu’s Experience as a
former Primary School Teacher and
student
 Guess how many percent of Ethiopian’s
total life time is spent in school

practice based profession
 It promotes social change,
development and cohesion
 It also empowers and liberate people
 The mission of social work is
‘enhancing human well-being The
basic principles of Social Work are
Human right, Social Justice, collective
responsibility and respect for
diversity
 Social Work focuses on the well being
of an individual within the society

FORM GROUP
 The Group will be
formed based on the
interest of students and
their educational status
Students of different
sections could not be in
one group.
DUTIES OF THE GROUP
 The main duty is doing a
group project
 In addition, the group will
be used as a platform to
read and present articles
(three articles every week)
 Note that: The failure of a
member of the group is the
failure of the entire group.

Interventions for Effective Practice

Rules: There will be presentation. The facilitator has the right to choose the
group and member of the group to present. If the member fails to tell the
basic concepts of the article , the it would be considered as the failure of the
entire group.

Class Attendance:
As per the article 74 of AAU Senate Legislation, you should attend 85% to sit for
the final exam

You can not enter to the classroom after 5 minutes (The facilitators addition)

The facilitator will be in classroom some minutes before. If you come ahead of
the facilitator, do not stay outside. Be in the classroom.
