trading with Continental Europe
Problem: Hurt Napoleon’s economy more
2. Peninsular War – lost 300,000 troops in Portugal &
Spain

Went horribly – Napoleon invaded with over
500,000 troops and only 10,000 survived
Caused his empire to start to fall apart

weakened, his enemies
attack and defeat
Napoleon

create peace and
stability in Europe after

of Vienna:
• To surround France
with strong nations
• To create a balance
of power
• Establish
legitimacy –
restoring monarchs
to their thrones
Results of the Meeting:

continued to spread and led to additional revolutions
in 1830 and 1848
• France was a constitutional monarchy but became
weaker while Britain and Prussia were stronger
