Interview

 An interview is a procedure designed to obtain information from a person through oral


response.
 An interview is most widely used personnel selection procedure.
Basic Features of Interviews.

 Selections interviews
 Interview structure; how structured interviews are?
 Interview content; the type of questions they contain?
 Interview Administration; how the company administer the interviews?
Types of Interviews

 Selection Interviews; while selecting employees.


 Appraisal Interviews; It is a discussion, following a performance appraisal in which
supervisor and employee discuss employees rating and possible action.
 Exit Interviews; When an employee leaves a firm for any reason organization might
conduct an exit interview, which provides an information about what's wrong in firm
Interview Formats

 Structured Interviews; An interview following a set sequence of questions is structured


interviews.
 Unstructured Interviews; An unstructured conversation-type interview in which
interviewer ask follow-up questions and pursue points of interest as they develop.
Interview Content (Types of Questions)

 Situational Interviews; A series of job related questions that focus on how the candidates
would behave in a given situation.
 Behavioral Interview; A series of job related questions that focus on how the candidate
reacted to actual situations in the past.
 Job-Related Interviews; A series of job-related questions that focus on relevant past job-
related behaviors.
 Stress interviews; An interview in which the applicant is made uncomfortable by a series
of often rude questions.

 Unstructured sequential interviews; An interview in which each interviewer forms an
independent opinion after asking different questions.
 Structured Sequential interviews; In this type of interview each interviewer rate the
candidates on a standard evaluation form using standardized questions.
 Panel Interviews; It is also known as Board interview in which a team of 2 or 3 members
conduct an interview and than combine their ratings into a final panel score.
 Mass interviews; A panel interviews several candidates simultaneously.
 Phone and Video Interviews.
 Computerized Interviews.
