MEANING OF VERB
• A verb describes what a person
or thing does or what
happens. Verbs are words that
express action or state of being.
TYPES OF VERB
• There are three types of verb:
• Action verbs
• Linking verbs
• Helping verbs
Examples of Action verbs

• Chandan broke the glass.


• I walk to school.
• Parents spoke to the teacher.
• We play at the playground.
Action Verb:

• An Action verb shows


action. It tells what the
subject of the sentence
does. Action verb
meaning relates to
actions, events and states.
Examples of Linking Verbs

• We are Hungry.
• He was late to school.
• The winner is John.
• This drink tastes
bitter.
Linking Verb:

• Linking verbs links or connects


the subject to the predicate.
These verbs are not followed by
objects, instead they are
followed by phrases which give
extra information about the
subject.
Examples of Helping verbs

• I am eating lunch.
• Billy has taken the test.
• They were talking about
him.
• He might come home.
Helping Verb:
• Helping verb helps a main
verb in a sentence by
extending its meaning. They
can also add detail to how
time is conveyed in a sentence.
It comes before the main verb.
