Luha ng Buwaya or, "Crocodile's Tear" in


translation, is a novel written by Palanca

Literature.

Amado V. Hernandez, poet, playwright, and


novelist, is among the Filipino writers who
practiced “committed art.” In his view, the function
of the writer is to act as the conscience of society
and to affirm the greatness of the human spirit in
the face of inequity and oppression.

Filipino American History Month. Villa
was born in 1907 in the Philippine

is a sort of "cultural apostle" whose purpose
is to revive interest in Philippine national life
through literature – and provide the
necessary drive and inspiration for a fuller

to preserve the spiritual tradition and the
orthodox faith of the Catholic past – which
he perceives as the only solution to our
modern ills.

Carlos P. Romulo (1899-1985) was an


author and the foremost diplomat of the
Philippines. He was the only Filipino
journalist to win the Pulitzer Prize and
the first Asian to serve as president of
the UN General Assembly (1949). He

After serving as president of the


University of the Philippines and
secretary of education (1963-1968),
Rómulo was appointed by President
Marcos to the post of secretary of
foreign affairs. Rómulo was the
recipient of more than a hundred
honorary doctorates, awards, and
medals, given by American and Asian
universities, organizations, and
foreign governments.

Francisco Sionil José (December 3, 1924 –
January 6, 2022) was a Filipino writer who was one
of the most widely read in the English language.[1][2]
 A National Artist of the Philippines for Literature,
which was bestowed upon him in 2001, José's 
novels and short stories depict the social
underpinnings of class struggles and colonialism in
Filipino society. His works—written in English—
have been translated into 28 languages, including 
Korean, Indonesian, Czech, Russian, Latvian, 
Ukrainian and Dutch. He was often considered the
leading Filipino candidate for the 
Nobel Prize in Literature.
