Who is an astronaut

We all are fascinated by watching the stars and moon. We dream of

touching the stars and reaching the moon. Have you ever wondered if
its possible? Yes! of course it is! But how? Have you ever heard of
astronauts? Yes the ones we learned in our previous chapter.
Who is an astronaut? An individual who has flown in outer space. The
word astronaut comes from Greek words for star(Astro), and
sailor(naut).

First astronaut:
Yuri Gagarin he was the first human to travel out of space from soviet
union(Russia in the past)known as a cosmonaut 1961 April 12 th he made one
orbit around earth on a flight that lasted 108 minutes.
Neil Armstrong:
an American astronaut who reached moon in 1969
Rakesh Sharma:
He was the first person to travel to space from india on 3 rd April 1984

And thus India became the 14th nation in the world to send a man to
outer space.
Valentina Tereshkova:
She was the first woman to go to space in 1963 from Russia
Kalpana chawla:
She was an Indian born American astronaut, was the first woman of
Indian orgin to go to space

An astronaut is a scientist who travels to outer space in

a spaceship to study about meteorites, earths
atmosphere, and more

What does it take to be one?

To be an astronaut we need to be a post-graduate in

science and math's or engineering and atleast 2 years of
relevant work experience.
To be an astronaut in NASA according to them we

Who is a Space scientist

A space scientist is an educated professional dedicated to researching

and studying the universe beyond Earth. There are many different
types of space scientists, each with specific purposes that help
humanity discover more about the space. Becoming a space scientist
typically requires many years of study and a great deal of patience; in
some fields, years or even decades can pass before a new piece of
information is learned and understood.

What deos a space scientist do?

Space scientists apply the laws of physics, chemistry and

geology to understand the universe and its contents.
Space science is all about looking outwards from Earth to
the stars and beyond. Space scientists try to find answers
to big questions, such as:
•Is there life beyond Earth?
•What are other planets made of and how are they formed?
•How did the universe begin?

What does it take to be one?

Space Science Is Less A Defined Scientific Field Than A Loose Category That
Draws On Multiple Disciplines. Foremost Among These Disciplines Are Physics,
Astronomy And Astrophysics; Space Science Also Includes Elements Of
Chemistry, Geology, Biology, Computer Science And Engineering. Earning A
Master's Or Doctoral Degree In Physics, Astronomy Or Astrophysics Could
Prepare You For Work As A Space Scientist. Master's Programs Are Typically
Completed In Two Years; You May Need 5-6 Years To Earn A Doctoral Degree.

Physics, Astrophysics And Astronomy Programs Often Overlap In Subject Matter.

Some Schools Even Offer Astrophysics And Astronomy As Concentrations
Within A Physics Degree. Physics Programs Are Primarily Concerned With
Understanding And Manipulating Light, Matter And The Fundamental Forces Of
Nature. Classroom And Lab Courses Touch On Photonics, Quantum Mechanics
And Gravitation.
