INNOVATION By Jeremiah, Ethan Tan and

Cayden Ng
WHAT IS
INNOVATION?
Innovation is the process of
creating a new product, idea,
or even a new and/or a more
efficient method of doing
something! Some examples
of innovation include Lego,
paper-based straws, and
electric cars such as Tesla.
Incremental Innovation is the
continuous improvement of existing
products or services to provide
more value to an existing market.
Architectural Innovation is the
modification of existing solutions
for an entirely new market.
Disruptive Innovation is when
new technologies and products are
created to serve an existing market.
Radical Innovation is when an
organization applies new
technology to a new market.

DIFFERENT TYPES
OF INNOVATION
LEGO
The Lego Group, a Danish
Company well known for
their toys today, did not
start out making building
bricks. In fact, they were a
carpentry shop! When the
Great Depression hit, Ole
Kirk Kristiansen, the
founder of Lego, decided
to build miniature versions
of his products out of
wood. Soon, Kristiansen
realised that he could sell
his miniature models as
toys for children.
Eventually, he started
making different objects
with plastic.
Riskiness and Success
However, this was a dangerous decision. Having never seen anything
like it, many people were skeptical to invest in Lego. Luckily,
Kristiansen’s innovation pulled through. Children around the world
began to love his brick system but were frustrated as their bricks would
fall apart very easily. This was when Kristiansen made an improvement
to his previous innovation; creating the interlocking brick system we
have come to know and love. Lego was a success.
WHY LEGO?
So, why did we choose Lego as the innovation to present on? Lego
blocks may be small, but once put together, they can make
anything; from towering structures to some buildings that are more
stable than you think! This innovation is interesting and in can be
seen in many ways. Furthermore, it teaches us the Marist value of
family spirit, showing us that divided we are weak but together we
are unstoppable.
Lego had a rocky start, but with determination and innovation, The

CONCLUSI Lego Group rose to fame. Lego was a revolutionary innovation and
changed the way many children viewed the world. Through this
project, our group have learnt that everything big once started small
ON and worked their way up to worldwide recognition. This shows us the
Marist value of determination; if we persevere, we will always find a
way out!
