Social Entrepreneurship
• Social entrepreneurship is the activity of establishing new
business ventures to achieve social change. The business
utilises creativity and innovation to bring social, financial,
service, educational or other community benefits.

• Social enterprises are not charities or welfare agencies. They


are private businesses established by entrepreneurs with an
emphasis on human values rather than just profit. These
businesses focus on working with and enhancing the social
capital within the community by encouraging participation,
inclusion and utilising a bottom-up approach to achieve social
change

Difference between Commercial
Enterprise(CE) & Social Enterprise(SE)
• CE represents the identification, evolution and
exploitation of opportunity that result in profit
• SE represents the identification, evolution and
exploitation of opportunity that result in social
value
• CE may create change in the society but that is
not the primary purpose
• SE may generate profit but that is not the
primary reason for starting it

• CE -Wealth is seen as profit
• SE – Wealth encompasses creation of the
Social & Environmental Capital
• CE – How to increase profits that in turn
enhances shareholders value
• SE – The profit is it’s level of social impact
