Letter Writing - A letter is a written message that can be handwritten or printed on paper. It is usually
sent to the recipient via mail or post in an envelope, although this is not a requirement as such. Any
such message that is transferred via post is a letter, a written conversation between two parties.

Now that E-mails (Advantages and disadvantages) and texts and other such forms have become the
norm for communication, the art of letter writing has taken a backseat. However, even today a lot of
our communication, especially the formal kind, is done via letters. Whether it is a cover letter for a
job, or the bank sending you a reminder or a college acceptance letter, letters are still an important
mode of communication. This is why it is important that we know the intricacies of letter writing.

Tips in Writing a Good Letter
Keyboarding and Document Processing  Make sure that they are well written. It can be very annoying for someone to have to struggle to
read handwriting. Always use your best and clearest handwriting.
 Make sure all your contact details are clearly written down at the top of the letter.
 If they are not, then you might not get a reply. The correct address is essential.
 Think about what you want to say. If necessary make some notes on a separate sheet of paper
first. This will ensure that you do not forget anything.
 Think about to whom you are writing the letter. Use the right style of writing and language —

 Lay out your letter using paragraphs. This makes it easier for the reader.
 Know your audience. Only use technical terms or jargon if you are sure the reader will understand.
 Be clear and to the point. Do not write two pages if one will do. Leave out unnecessary details. As
you re-read your letter for accuracy, ask yourself if anything in there is unnecessary information.
 Remain professional. Do not include any threats or slander in your letter, even if you are writing a
complaint letter or a letter of resignation.
