Manual Computation

Joseph D. Francisco, MBA

Professor, Graduate School (Holy Trinity University Palawan)
Variable Types
• Nominal – just a group identifier.
• Ordinal - there is a hierarchy on setting the values. Typical example is
the level of satisfaction.
• Scale – variables that do not have or ask for a categorical response
such as the foot size, weight, length and many more.
Central Tendency

Mean Median
• The variable must be in • Sort the variable.
continuous level or • Median work for both ordinal
measurement. and scale variables.
• Summation of the variable. • Locate the middle value.
• Divide by the total number of
samples.
Continuation

Mode
• Its just the most frequently
occurring value.
• It can work on continuous and
categorical variables.
Activity (10 minutes):
• Give 5 examples of nominal, scale and ordinal (each).
• Compute the average age of the students in this class.
• What is the median of the age of the students?
• What is the mode of the sex in this class?

• Write your answer on a piece of paper, you will submit that in the
Google Classroom later.
Activity (Compute the Variance and SD) 15
mins.
1. X = 10, 30, 50, 15, 25,89, 48,96,24,64

2. X = 6, 1, 2,89, 10, 15, 17, 20,30, 60, 50,78

Activity: Correlation (15 points)
Correlate age and salary, age and years working, and, education in years to age.
