Variable Types
• Nominal – just a group identifier.
• Ordinal - there is a hierarchy on setting the values. Typical example is
the level of satisfaction.
• Scale – variables that do not have or ask for a categorical response
such as the foot size, weight, length and many more.
Central Tendency
Mean
• The variable must be in
continuous level or
measurement.
• Summation of the variable.
• Divide by the total number of
samples.
Median
• Sort the variable.
• Median work for both ordinal
and scale variables.
• Locate the middle value.
Continuation

Mode
• Its just the most frequently
occurring value.
• It can work on continuous and
categorical variables.
Activity (10 minutes):
• Give 5 examples of nominal, scale and ordinal (each).
• Compute the average age of the students in this class.
• What is the median of the age of the students?
• What is the mode of the sex in this class?
