PROGRAM
Reading aloud
•Reading aloud is seen as the single most influential factor in young
children’s success in learning to read
•Reading aloud improves:
• listening skills
• builds vocabulary
• aids reading comprehension
• a positive impact on student’s attitude towards reading
•Promotes story enjoyment and literacy appreciations helps readers
notice what authors do in the writing process so that students can
make similar choices for themselves
Shared reading

•In shared reading , each reading situation is a relaxed, social one,


with emphasis on enjoyment and appreciation of stories, rhymes,
poems….
•For reluctant and struggling readers of all ages, shared reading
offers a non threatening approach to reading that strengths skills
and enjoyment
•Shared book approaches may include;
• Teacher reading
• Students reading
• Paired reading
• Tape recorder
Paired Reading

•Paired reading – this technique is a powerful one for supporting


less able readers.
•Usually more competent reader is paired with a less competent
one.
•Paired reading is an enjoyable way for two students to complete
a reading assignment or share a story
Guided reading
1. Whole class guided reading
2. Small group guided reading
3. Individualized guided reading

•Guiding reading is the art of the instructional reading program.


•Students and teacher meet to think critically about a book. Most of
the time of the group is spent in discussion in appreciating and
enjoying the language of literature and in sharing personal group
thoughts.
•Individualized guided reading- is terrific for placing an important
emphasis on self selected reading and children’s interests
