Name of School Observed: Mirriam College
School Address: Quezon City, Metro Manila Philippines
Date of Visit: May 14, 2021

Have you ever wonder what it makes to have a conducive and perfect
environment for both teachers and learners? We'll tell you. Upon having a virtual tour to
Mirriam College located at Quezon City, Metro Manila Philippines it gave us goose
bumps on how it was perfectly built. From its external and internal structure I could say
that Mirriam College is our dream institution. Knowing that Mirriam College is cited as a
Dark Green School considering that it is an environmental education network in the
Philippines. The school was implemented eco-friendly policies in all area as
administration, campus planning and also solid waste management.
Moreover, all the facilities that are integral in an effective school environment was being
seen in Mirriam College. Based on our observations, this campus has a lot to offer. From
learners in Elementary education up to College students, we humbly say that it's a great
opportunity for them to study in this kind of school. We were amazed considering that each
level has its own music room, library, covered court, gym, different laboratories, lecture rooms,
function halls, chapels and even residence hall. Their music room was superb owing to the fact
that that there were instruments and enough chairs to offer in the said school. With their
different laboratories, we believe that it was a nice thing that they have this kind of labs to offer
for the sake of the student's learning. Also, all the rooms, halls and other areas are well-
ventilated. Air-conditioned lecture rooms, laboratories and different halls are also present.
Each room has its own emergency exits and emergency corner in case such things happen.
We also wanted to highlight that their library was quite small for we believe that there are
thousands of students who are enrolled in the said school but despite of that reaction the
books are properly arranged, it was labelled and we're confident that the materials were not
outdated. We are also impressed with their Auditorium, it was big and can occupy a lot of
people. Their respective chapels was great considering that Mirriam Campus is a Catholic
school. Basically speaking, the thing that captures our attention the most was their Henry Sy
Innovation Center. We were like wow, is this true? All the rooms there was also air conditioned,
there are multimedia laboratories, e-laboratories, fab laboratories and instu laboratories. We
believe that all of them was created for change and progress.
On the other hand, we were unlucky to see their PTA office and industrial area. We are
not that sure if they have more of this facilitates but considering that Mirriam College has a lot
to offer, we guess it's not the thing. Though things are lacking, were so confident that there are
still facilities who are not being seen at the tour. What’s the important thing right now is we’re
be able to have this tour.
Indeed, we were so lucky to have this kind of opportunity. Having a virtual tour in such
prestigious institution was a remarkable one. Physical structures of the school was amazing, it
has a lot to offer and we truly concur that it's a conducive environment for both learning and
teaching. It could have been more interesting if we conducted this tour physically but despite
of this new normal set-up, we were just so lucky to have this
thing. Overall, the virtual tour was indeed a perfect one .

ANALYSIS
1. Based on your observation, is the school campus conducive to learning? Why or why not?
Answer: Based on the observation that we conducted, the school campus which is the Mariam
University is conducive to learning. It is conducive to learning because of its newfangled facilities and
gadgets use in teaching as well as in learning process, we are sure that because of their newfangled
facilities and gadgets the state of the art or the level of the development of the teacher in teaching as
well as the students in learning will help make the school a conducive to learning.

2. Would you like to teach on the school you have just observed? Why or why not?
Answer: Yes, we would love to teach in the school environment that we just observed it is because
of its advance technologies and the school environment itself. As a teacher we always wanted the
best for our students, we always look for something that would help them learn in an easy way
without them being stress or having a hard time understanding the lesson, with the use of the
advance technologies it would help the students in understanding the lesson easier and the teachers
in teaching the lesson without them having hesitation if they were teaching it correctly. The school
environment as well is one of the most important thing to be observed in teaching and learning
process, because it affects the students and teacher’s development and its safety. We are all aware
that safety is an important aspect when it comes to education and that it should always be observed.
ANALYSIS
3. For you, what kind of classroom is conducive for learning?
Answer: For us the kind of classroom that is conducive to learning is the
classroom that are well organized and has an newfangled gadgets,
meaning the material use in teaching and learning should always be
organize so that the environment is appropriately good for teaching and
learning process, the classroom should also have a newfangled gadgets or
advance technologies because we are living in modern world and we don’t
want to be left behind, that is reason why we need newfangled gadgets or
technology to be taught in our students for it will also help them as well as
the teachers, staff and school to be conducive to learning.
ANALYSIS
4. How do the school or the classroom in particular impact on the learning of the students going to
school? What are your conclusions?
Answer: The school and the classroom in particular impact the learning of the students going to
school in a manner that the environment of the school is one of the most important instrument in
teaching and learning process. It will always affect the development of every student as well
teachers based on the performance they are exhibiting. The environment that surrounds them are
making the teaching and learning process either easier or harder, may it also have a positive or
negative impact to the teachers and students, so in our own perspective the learning will be based
on the impact of the environment that surrounds the students may it be positive impact or the
negative impact. The example of the positive impact is the students learning the lesson easier in a
short period of time and also with a little effort of the teacher and having a high remark while for the
negative impact the students may show a little interest in learning because of the environment that
surrounds them and it may also give a frustration to the teacher and the students will have a low
remark.
APPLICATION
Upon conducting a virtual tour to one of the classrooms found at Miriam College, the
following are the things we observed; The classroom has a good physical structure and interior.
The display in wall of the classroom are numbers, alphabets, clock, Philippine flag, crucifix in the
blackboard area and others. We Observe also that they have altar inside the classroom. The
student’s art materials, projects and learning materials are well arranged in the shelves. The
learning materials in the classroom are usually visual aids, books and others. The learning
materials are still in good condition and usable by the students.
The tables and chairs are well arranged. There are 5 tables with 5 chairs each table.
Learner’s tables are arranged to which the pupils can really see the teachers while discussing in
front. The classroom is well lighted where all parts of the room are visible. It is also well ventilated
were in fact there are units of air conditioner installed and electric fan also are present. We observe
that they have Smart TV and speaker inside the classroom to reinforce and expand the content or
lesson being taught by the teacher and also to respond variety of learning styles and increase the
student’s motivation to learn.
Indeed, Miriam College is place that has a lot to offer. From its classrooms and other facilities
that are being found at the campus was all worth to tour with. Their classrooms and other lecture
rooms or laboratories are conducive for learning considering that it has a complete facilities and
other unexpected things you will noticed. With that being said, we believe that Miriam college is a
dream campus that every students wants to have. Aside from being an environmental friendly
school, it is also a place where you can have a bond along with your peers and even your
teachers.

ANALYSIS
1. Why should we plan a lesson? Is it necessary to “really” follow our lesson plan?
Answer: Teachers need to plan a lesson because it allows teachers to deliberate on their lesson
objectives, the types of activities that will fulfill those objectives, the sequence of those activities, the
supplies needed, how long each activity may take, and how students should be arranged. Yes, it is
necessary to follow lesson plan because it can assist the instructor in being properly prepared and
aware of what he or she intends to teach the students and it can also assist the teacher in focusing
on basic knowledge first, before moving the students on to the next phase.

2. Is the lesson plan straightforward, accurate and achievable?

Answer: Yes. Every details of the lesson are easy to understand for the teacher and students to easy
follow what is needed to be done.

3. Are the learning objectives SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, result oriented, time-bound)?
Answer: Yes. The learning objectives are SMART in which these can help engage students,
providing clear directions in what is to be achieved by the teaching session.
ANALYSIS

4. Were the learning tasks and activities in the lesson plan necessary in achieving the objectives?
Answer: Yes, it is very necessary, useful and important to include learning tasks and activities in the
lesson plan especially in achieving the objectives. It is also important that each activity is meaningful
and promotes student development and progression through the unit. Activities should build on
previous activities rather than being repetitive, and they should allow students to engage with and
develop their skills, knowledge, and understandings in a variety of ways.

5. Is the assessment aligned to the lesson outcomes? How?

Answer: Yes. The assessments given are aligned to the lesson outcomes because the assessment
and activities given were focus about sports and skills about specific sports in which these are also
the supposed learning outcomes of the lesson plan to be achieved.

Last Monday, we were tasked to join the class of Grade 8 LNU-ILS students and conduct

their online class. It was a class discussion. The teacher was sharing thoughts and knowledge
about the arts in the Southeast Asian Countries. Regarding about the instructional material, she

having an amazing PPT. The design was beautiful and it was appropriate to the topic she was
discussing. On the use of language part, she was utilising mixed Tagalog, Waray-waray and
English language. We think that it is just appropriate to use our own dialect in discussing a
certain topic. Moreover, her class involvement was also interesting considering that she has this

Learner
ACTIVITY
LEARNER’S CHARACTERISTICS WORKSHEET

1. Find out the number of the students. Gather data as to their ages, gender, racial groups,
and their religious and ethnic backgrounds, if possible.
Answer: here are Thirty-seven (37) students in Grade 8 ILS class and The Age of the
students is 13 years old of age.

2. How much interaction is there in the classroom? Describe how the students interact with
one another and with the teacher. Are there groups that interact more with the teachers than
others?
Answer: The teacher is using two languages to comprehensively discuss the lesson. She is

to those students who are trying to answer correctly the questions. The students also are
participating the class through asking and answering the questions. The interaction of the
teacher and students is establishing a positive relationship that them more comfortable and
safer in their virtual classroom. As a result, students are more likely to participate actively in
class and challenge themselves academically.

LEARNER’S CHARACTERISTICS WORKSHEET

5.Observe the differences in ability levels of the students in the class. Is there a wide gap
between the students who are performing well and those who are not?
Answer: Those who perform well in class has the ability to easily understand the lesson
during the discussion, but those who are low performing pupils they always have to ask to
their teacher for them to understand well the lesson. It is important for teachers to know
variables such as physical characteristics, intelligence, perception, gender, ability, learning
styles, which are individual differences of the learners. An effective and productive learning-
teaching process can be planned by considering these individual differences of the students.

6. When a student is called and cannot answer the teacher's question, do the classmates try
to help him? Or do they raise their hands, so that the teacher will call them instead?
Abswer: For teachers, questioning is a key skill that anyone can learn to use well. Similarly,
ways of helping students develop their own ability to raise and formulate questions can also
be learned. Raising questions and knowing the right question to ask is an important learning
skill that students need to be taught.
ANALYSIS

1. What roles do students play in the classroom? Is there someone who appears to be
the leader, a mascot/joker, an attention seeker, a little teacher, a doubter/pessimist?
Answer: Based on our observation, we just noticed some students who ask questions to
the teacher and those students can be consider as a little bit doubter/pessimist since
they ask questions, we think they also have some doubts or clarification about the topic.

2. Describe how the learners interact with each other. What do they talk about?
Answer: Based on our observation, we noticed that the class meeting has teacher-
students interaction in which the teacher discussed, ask questions and the students will
also respond or answer the questions being asked about the topic discussed.
ANALYSIS

3. How does the teacher influence the class interaction considering the individual
differences of the students?
Answer: Since we are now using the flexible learning specifically online class,
some students have good connection and others also have bad or poor internet
connection. Based on our observation, the teacher really understands the
situation of some students who cannot attend the class and also those who kept
on leaving the meeting because of poor connection. In terms of answering
questions or sharing of ideas, the teacher asks questions to the students but
some students can’t get it right, still the teacher understand and he/she will give
the right answer and discuss more for the students to learn a lot from the
lessons.
ANALYSIS
4. Describe the methods used by the teacher in handling the students’
differences in abilities. How did the students respond to the teacher? Did
the teacher use differentiated instruction?
Answer: Based on our observation, the students respond to the teacher
respectfully because we noticed that when the teacher ask questions,
the students will just type their responses to the chat box, they do not
open their microphone unless told to do so. Yes for us, the teacher used
differentiated instruction to meet individual needs. The teacher
discussed first the topic and then use differentiated process by asking
questions later on to know if the students learn something from the topic
and for the teacher to know what is more needed to be improve and
discuss more to achieve and meet learning goals.

Understanding and addressing the needs of a diverse learners is an important
component in the teaching and learning process. As we had conducted an
observation to the Grade 8 class of LNU-ILS, we witnessed how this component
should be uplifted and implemented.
.
Regarding about the role of the students, we observed that all of them are
participative. They were asked and they immediately answer. Since it was an online
class and their cameras were off, we couldn’t conclude their initial reactions about
how they answer. The teacher just asked them and their answers can only be seen
on the chat box. Although the interaction from the learners were limited due to this
new setup, we agreed that the instruction that was delivered by the teacher was
anchored to the needs of the students. Moreover, the topic was all about Southeast
Asian Culture and Arts.
APPLICATION
One strategy that the teacher made was to ask them if they’ve already seen or
witness that particular piece or place. It’s funny that some of them answered “yes”
and the others replied with “not yet, ma’am”. I also want to highlight the Korean
Culture that seems to be interesting on the discussion part, some of the students are
avid fans but some of them also find it not so ma’am.
. In that being the case, we therefore conclude that learners are ought to be
different from each other. As a future educator, we should not limit ourselves to focus
only on the differences of the student’s demographic profile but also we need to
consider their unique experiences and hobbies. We should let our students to
explore and not to feel the sense not being belong.

ANALYSIS
1. Why is assessment important?
Answer: According to study.com, assessment is important considering that is a key component of
learning, it helps students learn. When students are able to see how they are doing in class, they are
able to determine and reflect whether or not they understand the course material. Assessment can also
help motivate the students. In the being the case, assessment has this vital role in challenging and
reflecting the works of the learners but as well as to the teachers themselves. Assessment is the key to
someone’s development and growth.

2. Which among the indicators in the rubric was least observed? Which was most observed?
Answer: Based on our observation, we truly concur that there are no such thing as least and most
observed indicators in the teaching demonstration. The teacher utilized all the factors well that might
affect the flow and organization of the assessment she administered

3. Which of the type of assessment you observed were traditional? Which was authentic?
Answer: Upon watching the video, we think that the types of assessments that was given to the
learners were all authentic. Knowing that the teacher maximizes the advent of technology, she did
transform those traditional into a new and exciting type of assessment. It was indeed a thumbs up for
ma’am.
ANALYSIS
4. Why is there a need for an effective teacher to use different types of assessment?
Answer: We do believe that an effective teacher has the power to illuminate barriers into opportunity
ones. As an effective educator, it is a must to utilize different types of assessment to his/her respective
learners. For us to be able to meet our learning goals we should always put in on our mind to
incorporate the needs and different learning styles of our students to the kind of assessment are we
going to administer. It’s consider as a primary factor that in every assessment we are going to utilize,
we must put into consideration the capabilities of our dear students.

5. Is there such thing as the best assessment tool?

Answer: Based on our opinion, there is no such thing as considered as best assessment tool. We all
know that we have this diverse learner in our respective classes that’s why as long as your assessment
tool is parallel to the demands and abilities of your students it is already considered as best tool in
assessing them. We have a lot of assessment tools to use but what makes it effective is how we
teachers incorporate their learning style into the way we are going to assess them. Assessment
requires the both teachers and students learning and teaching demands.
APPLICATION

Grade level of the Class Observed: Grade 9

Date of Observation: July 03, 2021
Subject Matter: MAPEH (9 - Health Education)
Grade 9 MAPEH- specifically in Health class is the subject that we are task to observed.
The subject teacher is Ms. Arianne Cabañez, and to start her discussion Ms. Arianne conducted
first a prayer that is being led by her. After the prayer, to attract students’ attention she gave a
short game which is called “Guess the word” it is a scrambled letter that students are task to
. arrange it to create a word that is related to the topic which is to be discuss after the short game.
During the discussion, we observed a very clear and specific instructions given by Ms.
Arianne. The instrument use as well Is visible and readable, the pictures and color use is
attractive and catchy to the students, also during the discussion there is a presence of student’s
participation which is the most important when conducting a lesson. She also asks students if
they have questions regarding the lesson to clear things out before giving an assessment.
APPLICATION

Before giving the assessment to the students, Ms. Arianne motivates everyone
in the class that it is okay if they fail to give the correct answer, the important thing is
they try their best to answer the question correctly and learn after they got it wrong.
During the assessment teacher Arianne use a recitation wheel which has a student’s
name in every color since students are called randomly these may help maintain
. classroom management and avoid unwanted destruction and noises.
As a future Educator, these observation helps us gain new ideas and
perspective about teaching in a new normal set-up. It helps us improve our teaching
skills and abilities. It also teaches us on how to create an effective classroom
management, and how to handle students in a more professional manner.

Module 6: Episode 1
The Teacher as a Person
ACTIVITY
ANALYSIS
1. What makes a teacher person?
Answer: A teacher with good person-like personalities like; friendly, approachable, eager, and caring.
This is the teacher kids or students know they can go to with any difficulties or worries, or even to share
a funny anecdote. Great teachers have excellent listening skills and make time in their already jam-
packed schedules to help everyone who needs it.

2. How will your different attributes affect you as a would-be teacher?

Answer: The different attributes of a teacher have a big impact not only to the students, not only as a
teacher itself but also a person. It is because a strong-willed teacher will always triumph over a weak-
willed instructor. Personality creates a sense of happiness in the minds of all teachers. This makes a
teacher appear good, gives them confidence, and allows them to instruct children with gratitude and
patience. Teachers are the pioneers in shaping the lives of the children. Being children, we have
learned a lot from our teachers which we still find useful in our day-to-day lives. When it comes down to
teacher’s personality, not everyone has an attractive and disciplined personality. So, it’s high time that
teachers need to understand the importance of good personality to shape the future of their students.
ANALYSIS
3. How did the teacher utilized his/her personal qualities to make him/her a good teacher?
Answer: As what we observed, the teacher simply applies the good attributes he/she have to the
students or during the class. By simply teaching with a good and pleasant personalities of a teacher,
indeed that teacher can be considered as a good teacher. A good teacher should get to know his/her
students well individually. He/she should get to know their own potentials. He/she should encourage
them through acts of kindness and good qualities. And although there are standards set by school,
he/she should show reasonableness in every matter. Students have different capabilities, situations,
emotions and etc. All of his/her students are unique with each other. So, when things go wrong with one
of his/her students, he/she should endeavor to help him/her grow, and show him/her the true meaning
of being a good teacher. Thus, making so, he/she is a kind of teacher where his/her students matter
and not his subject/s.
ANALYSIS
4. Which other personal qualities not mentioned above do you think should be included? List them here.
 Love Their Students
 Listen to Students
 Make Time for Each Student
 Learn Something New Every Day
 Fill the Classroom with Positivity
 Patiently Handle Challenging Situations
 Constantly Look for Ways to Become Better
 Collaborate with Other Teachers

Date of visit/ observation: July 10,2021

As we are observing the class, we notice that it already started before the teacher
remember to record it, because the video recording about their class starts with a question, the
teacher keeps on asking the students about the video that she had showed to the class a while
ago and that serves as a re cup for the past lesson. We also notice after the discussion there is
an example video clip that could possibly help the students in understanding the lesson very
. well. The material use in teaching like for example the power point presentation is good it is
clean and very pleasing to the eye when it comes to the color used and font style, but the font
size is a little bit small and we know that it could be a problem to students who has eye
problem, and that makes them suffer more in learning the lesson online, we suggest to make the
font size bigger so that it will not be a problem to students in learning. For the evaluation part
the teacher conducted a recitation to see if the students learned something and they listen to
the discussion, it is good to see a great student’s participation, we see that they are doing their
best to answer the question right. Lastly, we observed that after the class Mr. Nick Macapaz is
also observing them and he gives a comment to the discussion. He even added that there will be
an assignment to be submitted next week.

ANALYSIS
1. What makes a teacher a professional?
Answer: We believe that what makes a teacher a professional is that he/she should have
respect for their own professionalism and stay up to date in their field of knowledge.
Professional behavior exhibits trustworthiness and maintains confidentiality. As a member
of staff, being supportive and cooperative plays a fundamental role in a learning
organization. Responsibilities should be shared among members of staff, ensuring not to
leave all the disciplining to senior staff. Classroom management is currently under more
scrutiny than ever before and entails aspects such as management of time, space,
discipline and diversity, to mention only a few. A professional attitude is important if
teachers want society to recognize them as professionals. There is no substitute for a
constructive, positive attitude towards teaching. Dedication towards learners, the subject
and the school in totality is imperative.
ANALYSIS
2. What are the qualifications of a professional teacher?
Answer: The very first qualification that came into my mind is being a licensed one, a professional
teacher must uphold this professional license by finishing a bachelor degree in education or any
bachelor’s degree with a professional education unit. He/she should also be a part of an organization
for teachers and undertake continuing professional development. Lastly, the most important thing is that
a professional teacher must embody the qualities, traits, values and characteristics of a true blooded
educator by following or abiding the code of ethics for professional teachers.

Based on your observation, do you think the teacher reflects a true professional teacher? Why do you
think so?
Answer: Based on our observation, the teacher does indeed reflect the true definition of a professional
teacher considering that she did able to conduct her class session following the ethical standards of an
effective educator. To be called as a professional teacher he/she must embody the values,
characteristics, roles and qualities of a professional teacher. With this being said, we agreed to say that
she did manifest the professional teacher standard.
ANALYSIS
4. What characteristics or qualities distinguish a professional teacher from a
n0n-professional teacher?
Answer: An professional educator shows kindness for educating; she or he
knows the subject and strives to foster exercises that are intriguing and
pertinent to understudies. An expert educator is keen on the school’s and her
understudies’ turn of events. Then again, a non-proficient educator instructs
on the grounds that it is a task. This educator is keen on the pay more than
instructing, and might be missing a great deal or may not be ready for
exercises. Surely, a non-expert educator does close to is required; while, an
expert blows away fundamental prerequisites of the work.
