TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT PATROL

TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT PATROL- is a part of police traffic supervisions which


consist of driving and walking here and there in an area or to and from on a road of for the
purpose of traffic law enforcement and to provide traffic connected service to the public
(PNP, 2009, P. 40).

PATROL – is a mobile team of operatives moving round the road network by means of
vehicle , to monitor and manage road situations ( Ajala, 2016, p.11).
OBJECTIVES OF TRAFFIC PATROL

The followings are the objectives of a traffic patrol ( PNP, 2009, p.41):
• Deterring violation and dangerous driving;
• Detecting and apprehending violators;
• Observing and reporting road conditions; and
• Providing certain services to the public handling emergencies and keeping traffic.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF PATROL
OFFICERS

Here are the duties and responsibilities of a patrol officers laid down by the Philippine National Police
(2010):
1. Patrol officers shall wear the prescribed patrol uniform.
2. Patrol officers must have the equipment necessary in the performance of their duty.
3. Participate in the Roll call formation before his tour of duty for briefing and likewise attend the
after tour of duty formation for debriefing;
4. Patrol the assigned beats, observe and check suspicious people, structures/ buildings, compounds
and vehicles;
5. Respond to calls, entertain complaints, initiate the investigation and protection of the scene and
minimize the after effects of accidents, fires and other catastrophes;
6. Observe and monitor public gatherings, prevent disorders and disperse unlawful assemblies;
7. Prevent crimes and arrest sighted law violators, assuring the public that peace in preserved;
8. Conduct surveillance in various places of business establishment and other installation and
remote hazards to public safety;
9. Assist personnel of responsible agencies / unit in facilitating the flow of traffic at busy
intersection/ roads within his area of responsibility (AOR), assist and provide pedestrian
information such as directions and street location.;
10. Conduct home visitations when circumstances warrants, ugnayan/ dialogues with the residents
in their beat;
11. Report occurrences and condition which relate to crime, public peace, order and safety;
12. Enforce city/ municipal ordinances on liquor establishments and night clubs, cabarets and all
house of ill- reputes; and
13. Check suspicious vehicles ( private, public, or commercial/ delivery vehicles) along the
highways in the course of their patrol.
