Introduction
Agriculture plays a vital role in the development
of many countries. Access to markets, finance
and information are cornerstones for agricultural
growth. Information and Communication
Technology (ICT) supports farmers by facilitating
access to markets through real-time data on
market prices, weather forecasts, information on
pests, seed varieties and planting techniques.

ICT
 Information and communications technology (ICT) is an
extensional term for information technology (IT) that stresses the
role of unified communications and the integration of
telecommunications (telephone lines and wireless signals) and
computers, as well as necessary enterprise software, middleware,
storage and audiovisual, that enable users to access, store,
transmit, understand and manipulate information.
 Information and Communication Technology (ICT) supports
farmers by facilitating access to markets through real-time
data on market prices, weather forecasts, information on
pests, seed varieties and planting techniques.

Opportunity
The drive is to equip young aspiring ICT
entrepreneurs who are interested in creating
(social) businesses that address challenges in
the agricultural sector (including fisheries,
livestock and forestry) with key information and
knowledge that can help them to use ICTs
effectively to launch agriculture-oriented
businesses.

ICT4Ag Drive
 The role of information and communication technologies (ICTs) in
strengthening and promoting agricultural enterprises has never been
greater
 Governments, private sector, multi-lateral and non-governmental
organisations (NGO), and especially young people, are increasingly
viewing the intersection of ICTs and the agriculture sector as a prime
means of tackling the global youth unemployment challenge by
enabling enterprise.
 The opportunity for youth employment in a merged ICT and
agricultural sector represents a potential boon

Role of ICT in Agripreneurship
 According to Peter Drucker, an entrepreneur searches for change,
responds to it and exploits opportunities.
 An effective entrepreneur converts a source into a resource.
 One way of converting source into resource is harnessing information
and communication technologies.
 ICT represents a tremendous opportunity for rural populations to
improve productivity, to enhance food and nutrition security, to access
markets, and to find employment opportunities in a revitalized sector.

Data Capture Machine / Device
 Data capture devices are pieces of equipment that assist with ID
card database creation and maintenance, visitor management
card systems and more. Some common types of data capture
devices are barcode readers and scanners, magnetic stripe readers,
signature capture pads, fingerprint capture devices, and ID scanners.
 Data input can be performed in several ways, including by data entry.
In data entry, data is placed in chosen fields of a database by a human
agent using a device such as a mouse, keypad, keyboard, touch
screen, or stylus, or alternatively, with speech recognition software.
Data capture is a kind of data input in which there is no data entry.
Instead, data is collected in conjunction with a separate activity.

How Data Capture Devices Work
 Data capture, or electronic data capture, is the process of
extracting information from a document and converting it into
data readable by a computer. More generally, data capturing can
also refer to collecting relevant information whether sourced from
paper or electronic documents.
 In these advent of ICT data capture has become more fun and
exciting process
 Devices varies depending on the types of data / entries of interest.
 Data captured are saved or stored in several ways from cache, cloud,
local devices etc.
