ORIENTATION PERIOD

Orientation sessions gives background to pre-service teachers to what

is and what is not, to how and why a certain role needs to enact. It provides

opportunity to answer questions and define roles, assess skill level and

experience, set expectations and anticipate head of problems. It is also

conducted in order to assure the orderly transition

Before the deployment of all graduating student teacher in Laguna

State Polytechnic University our Student Teaching Supervisor, Dr.Benny B.

Juacallaconducted an orientation. He reminded all the student-teachers about

the policies and rules under this semester. He enumerated also the do’s and

don’ts in particular to our attitude or behaviour to our cooperating school. He

listed the entire requirement we need to comply in order to pass this subject

January 14, 2019 (Monday) the scheduled day of their

deployment to the chosen school (Lumban National High School. After they

received the deployment letter from Dr. Benny Juacalla, they went straight

ahead to Lumban National High School, student teachers were introduced to

the principal and to their designated Cooperating teachers in their different

major of specialization who will observe and guide them throughout their

practice teaching. Mrs. Bautista welcomed them to the school they also had

the orientation in her office. She gave some rules and regulations of the

school particular the punctuality of the teachers and students. She instructed

the student teachers to come early in the school. Some noted that the student

teachers should remember to be honest at all times, have the good

relationship with the cooperating teacher and other staffs.

23

ORIENTATION PERIOD

Before a pre-service teacher enters the pre-service teaching, they need

first to be oriented wherein they will know where school they will be assign.

We had the orientation in CTE function hall in LSPU-SCC where the

supervisors of the pre-service teachers give some advices and told us the

cooperating school that every pre-service teacher were assigned. In first

semester of the academic year 2018 – 2019, the supervisor of pre-service

teacher held an orientation. It is conducted for pre-service teacher to have a

prior knowledge about on what path they’re taking.

January 14, 2019 we already deploy to Lumban National High School,

then we went to the principal’s office to be oriented. As a pre-service teacher,

we should be informed about the do’s and don’ts of the school what are the

rules and regulations of the schools through this we will not violate any of the

rules or policies of the school. By that we can implement the particular policy,

serve as a role model for the students. As the principal oriented the pre-

service teachers there are many things that she said like we should be

dedicated and passionate to the work and we should consider the students

learning ability. When it comes to the school environment, we should keep the

cleanliness of the school to create a healthy environment for everyone. After

that orientation with the principal we went to our cooperating teacher.

Mrs. Perly R. Añonuevo is the name of my cooperating teacher and

she oriented me about the rules and regulations inside and outside the

classrooms and give some advices and tips on how to handle the students.

Then she gave me the guidelines of the lesson that we will be discuss.

That day end with joy and excitement.

24

ORIENTATION PERIOD

Teachers are our greatest assets in the society. They have the ability

to inspire, empower, and foster environments of self-confidence, passion, and

nurture the lives of students. The Future Teachers in our society always

undergo with Orientation because Teacher Orientation is important to lay a

foundation for the new teachers, mainly to provide them with concise and

accurate information about the ‘how things are done here’  to make them

more comfortable in their teaching tenure.

As Lumban National High School welcomes the Student teachers from

Laguna State Polytechnic University, the school Principal Cristina A. Baustista

oriented them. As a pre-service teacher, we should be informed about the

do’s and don’ts of the school what are the rules and regulations of the schools

through this we will not violate any of the rules or policies of the school. By

that we can implement the particular policy, serve as a role model for the

students. As the principal oriented the pre-service teachers there are many

things that she said like we should be dedicated and passionate to the work

and we should consider the students learning ability. When it comes to the

school environment, we should keep the cleanliness of the school to create a

healthy environment for everyone. After that orientation with the principal I

went to the Head Teacher of Araling Panlipunan Office to know who would be

my Cooperating Teacher. As I go there, Mr. Garcia interviewed me about my

achievements, family background and what I want to teach. After that I met

my cooperating teacher, Mrs. Vivian a. Baladad.

OBSERVATION

PERIOD

Week 1

(January 14-18, 2019)

January 14, 2019, it was the day that Ms.Lorilyn Fadrigalan, an English

student-teacher from Laguna State Polytechnic University was deployed

together with her co-student-teachers at Lumban National High School, Brgy.

Wawa, Lumban Laguna. She was very excited to meet her new cooperating

teacher as well as her students and a little bit nervous at the same time

because of the fact that she will now have her practice teaching. They had

their orientation with the principal, Mrs. Cristina A. Bautista, she gave them an

advice on how to act like a professional teacher. The principal also reminded

them about the rules and regulations inside the school, as well as how to

handle situations in a classroom. She reminded them also that having good

relationship with the cooperating teacher is indeed good as well as to the

students. Developing positive relationships between teachers and students

has a positive, significant, and long-lasting impact on the students’ lives, both

academically and socially. A student would work better in class if they felt that

their teacher valued and cared for them. We all would want to feel loved and

cared for, and so do students. They feel valued if the teacher not only cares

about their grades but also their well-being and social life.

On 15th of January, it was the day when Ms. Fadrigalan met her

students wherein she will be handling Grade 10 students, and they are 4

sections, the Grade 10-Knowledge, 10-Justice, 10-Honesty and 10-Modesty.

Ms. Fadrigalan observed that the grade 10 students are friendlier than the

lower grade she observed last semester. She was glad because she met new
27

students and an approachable cooperating teacher, Mr. Felipe R. Magbuhos

Jr.

On the next day, she had prepared lesson plan with the topic of

Primary and Secondary Resources. She discussed the topic with the used of

technology, powerpoint presentation. When the students already understood

the lesson, they proceed to the activity followed by the short quiz. And on

January 21, Monday, this was the continuation of the lesson ‘The little

Prince’. When everyone understands already the story all about, the student

teacher asked them some comprehension questions to test if they really

understood the story all about. She was happy because every question she

asked was answered correctly. Individual activity was followed. Based on the

story, the Fox said to Little Prince that “What is Essential is Invisible to the

Eyes”, their task was to explained and elaborate the quotation.

On the following day they discussed about the Sensations; the five

human senses which are hearing, taste, sight, smell, touch, and on the last

they checked the things that must be done. Before the final demonstration,

Ms. Fadrigalan had her mock-demo, in that way they knew what must be

done and not. During the final demo, she was nervous but then when the time

Conjugation of Verbs. They reviewed first the 14 tenses of the verbs,

Ms.Fadrigalan gave to the students the pattern or format on how to conjugate

verbs. She also gave sentence examples for them to understand it clearly.

This was the last week of Student-teacher’s deployment. On April 1,

student teachers of Lumban were helping the teachers preparing the

materials will be use in moving-up of Grade 10 on April 4, Thursday. They

materials for Completers’ Night. Since this was the last week, they assured

that they had great and quality time together.

32

April 2, Tuesday, it was their graduation pictorial at Laguna State

Polytechnic University. All of them were very excited and happy knowing the

fact that their best day ever will be coming two months to go and at last they

will wear the best outfit among all. The smiles on the face of the student-

teachers are indeed charming.

April 4, 2019, this was the day of Moving-up Ceremony and

Recognition Day of Lumban National High School that was held at Lumban

Town Plaza. Everyone was very busy, some student teachers were the one

giving garland to the teachers, some are the usherettes and the others

January 14, 2019, was the day the student teachers were met Mrs.

Cristina A. Bautista the principal III of Lumban National High School and

every student has their own unique characteristics. After the orientation the

principal gave the respective cooperating teachers of the student teachers.

Then the student proceeds to the room where the cooperating teacher stays,

in the classroom she met Mrs. Perly R. Añonuevo, her cooperating teacher

and introduced her in front of the class. In the first day she observed the

environment inside and outside the classroom and observed the diversity of

the students in order for her to know what are the different strategies she may

apply when she already starts teaching. After the observation Mrs. Añonuevo

oriented the, student teacher to impose classroom rules and regulations at the

same time of the school, she also taught the topics that the student teacher

will discuss, and gave the list of the class that she is going to take over the

sections were Grade 10 Knowledge, Grade 10 Justice, Grade 10 Honesty and

Grade 10 Modesty.

On the following days the student teacher started to handle the class. At first it

was hard for her to handle the class because the students are very noisy and

she was nervous. She introduced herself in front of the class and started the

lesson. It was the first day the she talked as the one who gave and deliver

knowledge to the students, the one who wrote and explain different equations

on the board, planned lesson every day and the one who might inspire every

student.
34

Her first week as a student teacher another terrifying thing happened to

her, these are the times that she was lost in the deliberation of the lesson,

maybe because she was still adjusting to her new environment. Eventually,

she conquers her fears and let herself to improved day by day. She already

able to discuss well and talk well in front of the class.

WEEK 2

(January 21-25 2019)

This week is another week for her to explore and to grow more as a

student teacher, and observe of what teaching techniques/strategies she

might use for the students to listen carefully, actively participate to the

different activities during the class discussion.

She discussed about the Measures of Position for Ungrouped Data

before the discussion she gave first the objectives that the students should be

able to do. And to make the lesson enjoyable she prepared an activity entitled

“Working Backwards” this activity requires and enhances the mental ability of

the student they need to work backwards in order for them to decode the

given code. After the activity she proceeds to the discussion of the lesson.

After the class hours 3:25 her cooperating teacher conducted a meeting and

card viewing.

The next day they continued the discussion about the lesson and give

another, examples and let her students to do it individually after that she gave

a quiz to know if the student learn the lesson.

The next day she conducted a summative test about the different topics that

she already discussed.

35

WEEK 3

(January 28 – February 1, 2019)

As the days passed by she learned many things from her students, co-

student teachers and from the faculty members of Lumban National High

School.

This week they will proceed to the new topic which is Measures of Position for

Grouped Data. This topic is quite long and boring for the students but she

always considers her students capability to learn as her cooperating teacher

told her “when you’re teaching you should always consider your students’

differences and capability to learn if the lesson is quite long make it short, but

they will understand, if the lesson is boring make it fun in order for you to

catch their attention.” So, she decided to make it fun, she gave different

activities that are related to the topic and make sure that the students learn

something from the activities.

The next day she discussed another Measure of Position for Grouped

Data which is the Deciles for Grouped Data. Since that they already have a

prior knowledge on how to compute the first type of measures of position for

grouped data which is the Quartiles it will be easier for them to compute the

different measures of position.

Some of the student teachers were joined the math camp one of the

activities in Lumban National High School (LNHS).

36

WEEK 4

(February 4 – 8, 2019)

February 4, 2019 was her final demonstration, so she came early in the

school to prepare the materials that she will use in her demo. While waiting for

the faculty members of Laguna State Polytechnic University (LSPU), one of

her student’s came to her and says “Good luck ma’am I know you can make

it, just give your best and pray, asks for guidance from God. Congratulation in

advance ma’am God bless.” After the demonstration she was thankful to

everyone who helped her and her final demo was successful.

that they already finished all the topic in the curriculum guide. She discussed

the Arithmetic Sequence, to motivate her students she gave an activity

entitled “Who’s Next to Me?” This activity was about sequence she gave

some figures or shapes and the student would guess the next figure. After the
37

discussion and the application of the topic one of her student came and thank

her for being their student teacher this year. She felt so glad and

overwhelmed because they appreciated her as their ST (student teacher).

The next day she discussed the Geometric sequence. Since that it was

just a review the students had their prior knowledge about the topic. She gave

some activities and proceeds to the discussion Geometric Sequence is the

opposite of the Arithmetic Sequence. Then she asked her student to give the

formula for geometric sequence, and the student gave the formula.

WEEK 6

(February 18 - 22, 2019)

She came early to the school while she was waiting one of the grade 8

student came and told her that Mrs. Rowena Leobrera the head teacher of the

school was calling her, then she went to the PASBE office and talked to the

head teacher, the head teacher told her to handle grade 8 students because

one of the teacher was absent then the head teacher gave the schedule of the

teacher. Then she went to the respective classrooms written in the paper. The

grade 8 students were very noisy and hard headed than grade 10 students

that she was handling, on the other hand it was useful for her because she

met new students and handle another class with different characteristics.

The next day she already back to grade 10 she discussed the Division

of Polynomials, she showed a video to her class and after the video

presentation she asked some questions to her class on what they’ve

observed in the video. After that they discussed the topic. Then proceed to the

group activity that she prepared for the students.

38

WEEK 7

(February 25 - March 1, 2019)

Gladly her students appreciated all her efforts to make the discussion

fun and they see her not just only as their student teacher but also their friend,

sister and also as a real teacher. She felt fulfilled every time she heard her

students saying thank you and actively participating whether in class or in

extra curriculars activities inside and outside the school.

This week she helped her student to review their last topic for the

summative test that her cooperating teacher made. After checking the exams,

she was thankful because most of the students got high scores, and passed

the test. Then her cooperating teacher congratulated her because she did her

duty as practice/student teacher very well.

WEEK 8

(March 4 – 8, 2019)

This week she decided to review her student for the preparation to their

incoming final exam. She gave them different questions about all the topics

that they already discussed. After the review they checked the papers and

most of them passed the review.

This was also the week of Culminating Activity in MAPEH in LNHS all

the sections in every grade level are actively participated on the said activity.

They performed different types of dance for grade 7 it was festival dance like

Sinulog Festival, Turumba Festival, etc. For grade 8 it was folk dance like

tinikling, and pandanggo sa ilaw. For grade 9 was Zumba dance and for grade

WEEK 9

(March 11 - 15, 2019)

This week was the thesis final defense of some grade 10 students, she

taught some of her students to made the data matrix and tabulated their data

for their final defense. Gladly they’re successful.

This week is also the examinations of all grade 10 students of LNHS.

She was the proctor of grade 10 Justice in the morning, while in the afternoon

she was the proctor of grade 10 Modesty. It was not easy to supervised

students that took the exams because some are not that serious, some are

noisy and some are standing. It’s not easy to maintain silence in the

classroom. Some students had their questions in different subjects but, as

their proctor for that day she gave her best to answer all the questions of her

students even though it was not her specialization.

WEEK 10

(March 18 - 22, 2019)

This week was all about getting the item analysis, mean percentage,

and proficiency level of the students who took the final exam. After the item

analysis she get the portfolio of her students since that their final exam was

already done. Some didn’t pass their portfolio because the left it in their

house, some papers are missing or incomplete so she decided to give time for

the students who’s not able to pass their portfolio.

The next day she helped her cooperating teacher to record all the

needed data from the students in other for her to compute the grades of her

students. She also corrected some misspelled name, wrong birthdate, and

misspelled name of the parents or guardians of her students based on the

40

NSO given to her so that her students will not get in trouble when it comes to

their requirements.

Week 11

(March 25 – 29, 2019)

This week was one of the saddest, and boring weeks for her as a

practice teacher. Because this will be the last week that she will not able to

meet some of her students.

This week she was able to thank all her students for being part of her

practice teaching journey, it was an amazing and extra ordinary experience of

her as an individual who needs to grow. As a student teacher she’s not the

only one who delivered the lesson and give knowledge and moral lessons to

her students, but she was also a learner who learned from her students.

Her cooperating teacher and grade 10 Justice had their boodle fight for their

student teacher and the student of grade 10 justice gave a piece of colored

papers to her with a written message on it.

She had to practice a dance which is “Salsa dance” together with grade

10 Justice for the preparation in their completers’ night after the practice she

helped other student teachers for the decoration to the completers’ night.

Week 12

(April 1–5, 2019)

This week was all about preparing for the moving up ceremony,

recognition day and completers’ night of Lumban National High School.

From April 1 to 3 2019, she had a practice of salsa dance together with

her co-student teachers and grade 10 Justice. After the practice they helped

the teachers of LNHS for the decoration and other stuffs needed for the
41

ceremony and completers’ night. On the night of April 3, the student teachers

together with the grade 10 advisers and some faculty members of LNHS went

to Lumban town plaza to put some decoration on it.

April 4 2019, was very important occasion for the students of LNHS

especially for grade 10 students it was their Moving Up Ceremony and

recognition day. They assisted the students and the parents of the students.

After the ceremony they gave their pledge to the teachers of LNHS. At the

night they held the completers’ night they danced different social dances like

Tango, Salsa, Mambo, Boogie, etc. It was a memorable day for the grade 10

students especially to the student teachers of LNHS.

She felt so happy and blessed because she was assigned in her alma

matter Lumban National High School, there was many unforgettable moments

since day one. She learned a lot of things from the staff, faculty members,

principal and also to her students, these individuals helped her to grow, to be

able come out to her comfort zone, able to think critically and creative,

because of them she knows that she already grown not just as a person but

also as a teacher. LNHS was an incredibly perfect, positive and supportive

environment that value the diversity of the learners and enhance the learner’s

different ability whether academically or physically, in which the

practice/student teacher need to know and experience.

42

WEEK 1

(January 14 – 18, 2019)

The first day of my practice teaching journey, All of us, Student

Teachers from LSPU SCC are all oriented by the principal of our cooperating

School Lumban National High School, Mrs. Cristina A. Baustista. She oriented

us about the school policies and gave us some of teaching strategies and

techniques that we can use in our practice teaching. Our principal also shared

her story which inspired and motivates us student teachers to love teaching

more. LHNS has a limited scholar which helps them to come in school even

without financial support and to strive harder on their study. After being

welcome by the humble principal, we do meet again our Cooperating teacher.

Lumban National High School is the same school I observed during our

1st semester, that’s why as we come back same cooperating teacher was

assigned to us. And I am very blessed to have Mrs. Vivian A. Baladad as my

supportive and mother-like cooperating teacher to me.

The next day I teach my students in 7-Jasmine, new lesson which

caught their interest because the topic is “Unang Digmaang Pandaigdig”,

before we start the lesson I asked them first about what is the last topic all

about and I am glad that they can still recall the last topic they have tackled

with Ma’am Vivian. And to start the lesson I asked them first what may be the

reason that the World War 1, started? Then lots of my student gave their

ideas until the right answer was heard in the class so after hearing their

answers I show them a video that contains the reason why the World War 1

started then we proceed to the discussion. Same routine happened to 7-

Daisy, 7-Rose, 7-Cattleya and 7-Sampaguita.

43

I may not be around the other day because of having a fever, but still

know what happened in school. It was the Pre-Elimination Round for the

Grade 7 Students regarding the Cultural Dance it was the project of Ma’am

Vivian on our subject Araling Panlipunan. Each section in grade 7 have 2-3

groups to compete with their co-sections, after the Pre-Elimination round only

one group will win on their section who will represent their section to the finale

round on January 25, 2019.

And on the last day of the first week, it was Card Viewing day but I still

continue our lesson regarding the same topic I discussed the last time to 7-

Sampaguita, 7-Sunflower, 7-Orchids and 7-Carnation. By the way, I have 8

sections to handle in a week. At 3:00PM, the parents of 7-Jasmine my

cooperating teacher advisory class are already coming I am the one to

welcome them and led them to their sits. Before the card viewing, Ma’am

Vivian discussed about the PTA payment and some other announcement, she

also shared the class standing of the parents sons and daughters so that the

parents are aware on what their children is doing in the school. I observed

that the parents attendance in incomplete, which made me realize that not all

parents of 7-Jasmine can give time to their children and as I observed again

that those students who are very noisy and have a failing grades have the

parents who can’t give time to them during Card Viewing or PTA meeting.

Giving time to their sons and daughters made them feel important and

special.
44

WEEK 2

(January 21-25 2019)

We don’t have class on the first day of the 2 nd week as mayor declared

because its Lumban Fiesta, The other day, we have a new lesson for that

day about “Ideolohiya” to my 7-Jasmine, 7-Daisy, 7-Rose, 7-Cattleya and 7-

Sampaguita. We discussed the topic by giving a lots of questions like how

important having Ideology in a country and what category of ideology would

be more effective so that my student can think critically.

The next day, is the same topic for the 7-Sunflowe, 7-Orchids and 7-

Carnation but in my 7-Jasmine, 7-Daisy, 7-Rose and 7-Cattleya new lesson

was discussed to them it is the continuation of the last topic which is “ Iba’t-

Ibang Ideolohiya at ang mga Malawakang Kilusang Nasyonalista sa Timog at

Kanlurang Asya.

January 25, it is the day of the Final Round of the Culminating Activity

with the theme of Strengthening Cultural Awareness of Grade 7 students

towards global competitiveness. Students are very busy helping their

classmates who will represent their section. As student teacher of 7-Jasmine I

help them by making them glam by doing their make-up and preparing some

of their props and costume. I go around each grade 7 classroom, and I can

see that everyone is involve in the activity which makes me happy and realize

that these students will unite just to show others that they have a strong

relationship even if they are belong to the low or high section. After the

program, the winners are already declared, the 2 nd runner up is the 7-

Sunflower, 1st runner up is the &-Jasmine and the over-all champion is 7-

Sampaguita.
45

WEEK 3

(January 28 – February 1, 2019)

This week made me feel nervous because in just few days it is my

Final Demonstration in Teaching but I still keep on thinking to lots of positive

things to happen. I continue teaching my students with the new lesson, “Uri ng

Pamahalaan” to my Grade student in the whole week.

January 30, I gave them a Summative Test regarding all the lessons

that we have tacked and I am happy on the results, almost 80% of my

students passed the Summative Test with that I became more motivated on

teaching them because knowing that my students can understand my lessons

makes me feel that I am an effective student teacher that makes me proud of

myself. To the 20% who failed the Test I talked to them after checking and

told them that there’s always a next time and try to strive harder on their study

The next day, I have a class on LSPU and after that I go in LNHS to

finalize my lesson plan and other things I need to prepare for my Final

Demonstration. I’m very thankful to my coop and students who helped me to

have a general cleaning, to prepare the classroom setting and to keep praying

on me that I will have a successful Final Demonstration for tomorrow.

February 01, 2019, the BIG DAY for me has a finally came, I arrived at

school 6:03 AM, and at 8:00AM the panels finally arrive and 8:15AM my Final

Demo started. I am nervous at the start but as I see my parents support, my

students cooperation and my coop was smiling my nervous turns to

happiness while teaching that’s why it was a Job Well Done Final

Demonstration in Teaching as my panel said during our Conference. I am

really blessed to have all those positive people around me.

WEEK 4

(February 4 – 8, 2019)

It was a new refreshing week for us student teachers from our Final

Demo last week to a new batch of our co-ST’s Final demo for this day

February 4, 2019. We are all supporting and cheering each other for all of us

to have a successful final demonstration in teaching. Aside from my co-ST’s

Demo, my cooperating teacher conducted her C.O.T.

There’s no class on the next day because of Chinese New Year, it was

declared as a Regular Holiday. On February 6, the lesson continued. This

day, new lesson was discussed to 7-Jasmine, 7-Daisy, 7-Rose, 7, Cattleya, 7-

Sunflower, 7-Orchids and 7-Carnation and it was all about the “Kolonyalismo

at Imperyalismo sa Timog-Silangang Asya sa Pilipinas”, it is not difficult for my

students to understand our lesson because this lesson was tackled during

their elementary days, grade 5 maybe. My students are very active while

discussing every time I asked them a question, lots of ideas are extracted by

them.

The lesson continued to the 7- Sampaguita , 7- Sunflower, 7-Orchids

and 7-Carnation , the topic was about the “Patakarang Ipinatupad ng mga

Espanyol sa Pilipinas” which more captivate my students attention because of

our activities every day before lesson and by this topic I gave them activity

called HULARAWAN that they really enjoyed the lesson continued until the

end of the day for this week. This week is good for me, my practice teaching

journey becomes more challenging to face different days of teaching that

made me realize that every day we must have a different strategies and

techniques so that we can get our students attention.

47

Week 11

(March 25 – 29, 2019)

This week many students are absent because for them it is vacation

already but some of them still go to school. Playing games with their

classmates or should I say Making bond before the last day of school, before

they will be separated on their next school year. There is one time that I

shared some stories of mine while there are playing so that they will be

inspired about life, sharing Gospel as well which makes me happy.

Week 12

(April 1-5, 2019)

This week is the week for our completion, making narrative and lesson

plan compilation, approval of our clearance. Also Dance practice for the

upcoming event Completers Night. We Student teachers will also join the said

event and we need to participate as well.

FINAL DEMONSTRATION TEACHING

1st day of February, 2019, this was the special day of Ms. Fadrigalan

because it was her final demonstration teaching. At first, she looks very

nervous but as time goes by she finally manage to form big smile on her lips,

no worries at all and her self-confidence can be seen very high. She prepared

very well her instructional materials, her lesson plans were checked and

finalized by her cooperating teacher, Mr, Magbuhos. He always guided Ms,

Fadrigalan from its pronunciation and grammar.

The topic of Ms. Fadrigalan was an excerpt from Les Miserables

entitled ‘Cosette side by side with the stranger in the dark’ by Victor Hugo. Her

students were the Pilot section, Grade-10 Knowledge. They were very

cooperative, energetic and talented and smart that’s why her final

demonstration went well. The panelist were Mr. Magbuhos, the principal Mrs.

Cristina Bautista, the head teacher Mrs Leobrara, English coordinator Mr. Eryl

Garantuza and two professors from LSPU, they were Dr. Bunyi and Dr.

Vivora.

Her family, friends, and special someone was also there, supporting

and cheering her. With their support, the demonstrator inspired so that she did

her very best in order to become successful her demo teaching. At the end of

the day, her demonstration teaching was a Job well done.

Final Demonstration Teaching

"Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to

those who prepare for it today."

- Malcolm X

Her journey as a practice teacher was not that easy there are times like

she wants to give up, it was full of hardships and difficulties. There are some

students who’s not paying attention, some are too noisy, some doesn’t even

care what she’s discussing, but as time passes by they helped her to grow

and she learn many things from her students like how to treat them equally,

what are the strategies that she needs to apply in order to catch her student’s

attention for them to listen and to learn.

February 4, 2019 was one of the most memorable moment in her life.

This once in a lifetime journey of her gave her different flavor that she needs

to add in her personality and life. Preparing for her final demo is not that easy

there are a lot sleepless nights, lots of problems that she encountered, but

that are just a problem and she knows that every problem has its own

corresponding answer. She started her final demonstration with the daily

routines (prayer, greetings and checking of attendance). Second, she gave

the objectives of her lesson next is the quick review of different symbols and

terminologies of their past lesson. In order to motivates and catch the

attention of the students she gave them an activity which is the Pictoword this

is a word guessing game using pictures. Through this game the students will

knew what is the topic to be discussed for the day. After guessing all the

pictowords she asked some questions to her students, then revealed the title

of the topic which is the Percentile for Grouped Data. After presenting the title
50

she presented two formulas and asked what are the differences of the two

formulas after that is the introductory activity to give a glimpse on what is the

lesson all about she grouped the class into four groups then she gave the

instruction to her students. Each group needs to solve a problem that is given

to them using the formula of percentile for grouped data after that each group

needs a representative to present their finished work in front of the class.

From their activity she asked her students a series of questions based on her

students’ observation this question will serves as a guide for them. Then for

her students to fully understand the lesson she defines what is percentile for

grouped data, gave what are the use of percentile and gave some example

for further understanding. After the discussion she gave an additional activity

and then evaluate her students and then she also generalized the lesson.

Then she asked her students if they understand the lesson or if they have any

questions about it. Then she let her students to read their assignments. The

practice teacher says “Thank you for listening and I hope that you learn from

me, goodbye class.” Which is her closing remark too her class.

After the final demonstration the panelist gave their comments about

on what they’ve observed, the panelist says the she has a mastery of her

lesson and know how to manage the time for each activity. She has a good

communication skill, and have some good praises when her students are

answering like “good job, nice, very good and job well done” and the uses of

different action praises like “good job clap.” She’s also good in using

multimedia like slide decks. All the panelist said congratulations to her and

smile.

FINAL DEMONSTRATION TEACHING

One week before my Final Demo, My cooperating teacher gavae me

the topic and it was entitled Patakarang Ipinatupad ng mga Espanyol sa

Pilipinas, very interesting topic to discussed because it was already discussed

to my Grade 7 students during their Elementary days because of that I feel

that It would be easy for me to discussed it to them on my Demonstration.

After knowing my topic, I proceed on making my Instructional materials, I used

both Modern and Traditional way of teaching that made me had another good

point from my panelist.

It was February 01, 2019, 8:15 in the morning at Lumban National High

School when my Final Demonstration happened. The Lesson-Plan are all

prepared at the table for whoever be my panelist that day, then finally the

finalist from LSPU arrived, Mrs. Bunyi, and Mr. Vibora are the one who

became my panel from LSPU and from LNHS are Mrs. Baladad, Mrs.

Leobrera and Mr. Garcia. Seeing my panelist makes me nev=rvous but seeing

my parents at the back who supports me by everything makes me have a

courage that I would succeed on my final demonstration. And in the end after

my demo, all the preparations, nervous and excitement are done with a happy

smile. The panelist are happy with what I did, they clapped their hands as well

as my students and parents which makes me teary eye because I was

overwhelmed to all their support. I really appreciate them, Final

Demonstration Teaching made me realize that I can be a good teacher one

day.

REFLECTIONS

IMPRESSIONS

REFLECTIONS AND IMPRESSIONS

Since I was a child, I know to myself that what I want in the future is to

become a teacher. I want to become a teacher because I want to touch the

hearts of every students. I want to share my knowledge and wisdom to them, I

want to teach them how to become good citizen of our country.

Many of the great teachers that I have had throughout my education

have become my heroes and role models. I began to understand in high

school and college that great teachers have skills that I wanted to learn. I

want to follow their examples. I remember that great teachers were good at

explaining content, were patient yet firm with students, were always fair, set

high expectations, knew how to motivate, and used humor appropriately.

They were great communicators who had a command of their subject matter

content. This is the type of teacher that I want to become.

I want children to learn in a safe and comfortable environment so that

their self-esteem will be increase. A high self-esteem will enable them to strive

for and accomplish any goals they set for themselves. As a future teacher, I

will play a part in helping them to do that. I will have the privilege of shaping

future parents and productive members of society. I believe that teaching is

more than a job. It is an important contribution I can make to better our

society, and I am excited about the opportunity to do so.

I want the best for everyone. I will set high goals as a future teacher

and do my best to show each and every student that these goals are within

their reach. I will expect every one of my students to want to learn and more

importantly to understand.
54

I consider myself represents the 21st century educator in which the

implementation of using different instructional materials, the fusion of

technology or media to the traditional way of teaching process. This school

can even follow and sustain the needs of every student to as part of 21st

education because I experienced it when my teacher thought us about basic

operation on how to use computer and using the Microsoft office. A lot of

things happened and changed but the way of taking discipline to each

students were just the same as part of task of being a teacher you are be a

good adviser / facilitator. The way of teaching that you always consider the

learning that being acquired by your learner and how can apply this learning

in real life situation to measures the effectiveness and efficiency of your

teaching strategies and techniques.

REFLECTIONS AND IMPRESSIONS

"Any good teacher knows how important it is to connect with

students and understand our culture."

- Adora Svitak

Teaching is a very noblest profession that shapes the character, can impart

knowledge to the students, difficult yet exciting. Difficult because as a teacher

who meet a lot of students with different attitudes or character, plans lesson,

think of different strategies that are applicable to their students, and think of

different instructional materials that would be suited to the lesson every day.

Exciting because teachers’ gain love, respect, friends and happy memories

from those students, Teachers are the builders of the future they’re the bridge

of every students for them to reach their dreams and goals.

This journey of mine are unforgettable all the theories about education

that I’ve studied for the past couple of years seems like a step-in stone that I

need to convert in action while I’m teaching.

The first time that I met my students I thought it will be difficult for me to

teach them because I’m nervous and a bit shy when dealing to different

people, I’m a short-tempered person and I get angry easily but these students

taught me everything, how to be patience, not to get angry easily, not to be

shy when I speak in front of many people and to be friendly. These kids

helped me to become a better person, not just only the students but also all

the faculty members of Lumban National High School (LNHS), the principal

and my cooperating teacher.

56

Behind my success there are many people who helped me. Those are

the people that I will never forget.

I believe that Lumban National High School is one of the most valued

and important environments for me this school serves as the stage for the

student to showcase their talents, abilities and knowledge attributes of the

students.

This educational establishment helps every student to grow more and

to reach their success, dreams and goals. School and its facilities have a big

role in the life of the students. Teachers might be insufficient without proper

and complete facilities. LNHS was located at the peaceful place that is

conducive for learning. This place is also good enough for the population of

the students.

The principal, faculty members and other personnel’s of LNHS.

These people are very nice and friendly they are also a big part when it

comes to students’ development. The principal of the school has to stand tall

above all she also serves as a good role model to everyone she’s very nice

and approachable and helpful. The faculty members are very nice to everyone

in the school they are the one who deliver the lesson and give knowledge to

the students. Other personnel’s of LNHS they are the one who maintain the

cleanliness of the school the one who guard the school premises. Those

individuals also helped me to become what I am right now.

My cooperating teacher. She serves as my mentor, a good role

model for me as a trainee to this profession. When we’re together I’ve realized

a lot of things like as a teacher I should know all what’s good or best for my
57

students, she taught me to have lots of patience to my students, not to be a

student enemy but instead to be their guide, friend and sister. What is the do’s

and don’ts as a teacher.

My first teaching experience. Like what I’ve said teaching is the

noblest profession its difficult yet exciting. On my first day of I was very

nervous yet excited. Nervous because at first, I don’t know what are the things

that I should do. Excited because I already teach students. The students that I

handled was the highest grade in junior high school which is the grade 10 and

their sections are Knowledge, Justice, Honesty and Modesty. Some of the

students are on my age and some are younger than me and because of their

young ages I can say that most of them playful, unmotivated to listen to the

teachers. That’s why I am nervous but it made me realize that I should think

creatively in every lesson that I should discuss to arouse their interest and for

them not to get bored while learning during my period. And I know it’s my

responsibility as their teacher. In addition to that I should provide conducive

learning environment for them, a friendly one that would enhance their social

skills, a psychological and environment in which can cater their individual

differences.
58

REFLECTIONS AND IMPRESSIONS

The fact that I am now in the summit of achieving my goal, I have this

feeling of enthusiasm to bring out the best of what I have learned from almost

three years of preparation through studying theories about education. This

time, I have to convert these into actions.

Student- teaching is the ultimate way of measuring how much I have

learned from the past years. Indeed, I must say that I am now ready.

I could say that at this point, I am now fully equipped with the

knowledge about teaching, the learners, and also the lesson that I am about

to teach. Provided with my attitude towards the learners, the teachers and the

other personnel, I could say that I am geared up. I believe that at this moment,

I am endowed with the skills in teaching along with my habits.

I believe that I could learn more on this internship. I could learn things

that I know I never been encounter before by reading a book, or from our

lecture. My skills will be fully exercised inside my cooperating school and this

will serve as a means of evaluating what I have gained through a real-life

setting.

“Lumban National High School” I believe that the school is very

important factor in learning and development. Good schools can develop

students better in terms of physical, moral and mental attribute.

School is an institution designed to allow and encourage students to

learn under the supervision of teachers, a place for learned course and

instruction, an institution for learning, an educational establishment and a

place for acquiring knowledge and mental training

59

I was an efficient teacher in the true scene of the word, my students

learned remarkably well but if I was an inefficient teacher, in which case, my

students will suffer a setback. The facilities were adequate and serviceable;

my students learned well and progressed rapidly. Lumban National High

School was located in a very quiet place my students found it conducive

learning. Good enough for the school was populated free. The tress, plants

and the environment were inspiring and encouraging to every student to

dream big.

I believed that school is an important factor on the factor on the levels

of development of every individual.

I realized that this school is fully committed on serving the community

for development by giving a full attention on the needs of the learners on

academics and leadership. This is for them to function effectively on the

society. This school aims to be one of the best performing school in the

province of Laguna through their services, commitment and leadership.

So, I need to manifest my role as a student teacher in this institution in

order to contribute on their mission, vision and goals. I have to assure that

each of my action will count for the betterment of the school. I have to bring

out the best of me and extend my help on its limit to fully achieve these. I

should carry out this into the classroom to transfer these to the students and

oblige them to act upon these school’s mission, vision and goals not only at

the school but most of all, in the community.

“On my first encounter with my cooperating teacher” I realized that

I should make a lot of adjustment in dealing with my career. In this phase, I

am a student, learning how to act in front of the learners and do the things
60

which a teacher does and at the same time I am also a teacher, teaching the

students in order for them to learn. This is a complicated challenge for me but

then in the brighter side, this is the way of achieving my desire. Every student-

teacher should be able to be an effective teacher.

“On my first dealing with the learners I observe” that some of them

are not concerned with their studies especially those students belong to the

lower section. However, some of them show eagerness to learn. The girls are

said to be roguish which is unusual, their behavior towards learning is a great

challenge for a beginner teacher like me. A lot of courage is needed, I must

say.

“My first day of teaching” I am really meant for the teaching

profession because teaching is not just a desire for me but I accept this as my

duty- to build up the future leaders of our country.

Moreover, it is important to provide a social, psychological and physical

environment within which all the students, regardless of their individual

differences in learning, can engage the different learning activities and work

towards attaining high standards of learning. I have to determine,

understands, and accepts the learners’ diverse background knowledge and

experience. Furthermore, I should maintain stature and behavior that upholds

the dignity of teaching.

I realized that there are a lot of things to consider. I believe that

education is an agent of change and it is my part as an educator to create

innovations starting at the classroom where I can personally influence my

students. Although I have apprehensions regarding my students, it should not

be a hindrance for me to do my duties and responsibilities.

61

I think that I can do better if...

I had given a day to prepare the things that I needed like the materials

to make it highly interactive to the students. Also, I can further study the

lesson so that I can execute it in much presentable way and to give the

student additional information regarding the topic. In addition, if only I am well

acquainted with them, I know I can manage them more effectively. So far,

these are the things that became a hindrance for me to act better on the tasks

given by my cooperating teacher. Consequently, knowing that the class got a

passing grade in their short quiz, I believe that I did my task well.

It is essential to establish goals that define appropriate expectations for

learners and to pace the lesson appropriate to the needs and/or difficulties of

learners. Also, a teacher must demonstrate mastery of the subject,

communicates clear learning goals for the lessons that are appropriate for

learners, makes good use of allotted instructional time, selects teaching

methods, learning activities and instructional materials or resources

appropriate to learners and aligned to objectives of the lesson. In addition, I

realize that it is important to recognize the general learning processes as well

as unique process of individual learners.

At Last

Feedback guide both teachers and students, a core part of teaching

and learning, not an add-us around on ritual, focus around course and topic

learning outcomes, guide students to become independent learners and their

own critics and account developmental approach for achievement in a

62

discipline Feedback ought to aim at enabling my students to improve their

future efforts.

However, I often got the impression that my students left the university

committing the same errors they made when they entered.

Teaching is such a critical profession. I experience how difficult it was

to be a teacher. Every student depended on me they were looking at me as if

I was a perfect model in society. They were observing the best in me and

even the worst. Therefore, I was very careful for what I did. Sometimes I

wanted to withdraw myself from those people around me and I hid myself in a

safe place where there were no chatting, gossip and unfair judgment.
