•Social-emotional development is a
child’s ability to understand the
feelings of others, control their own
feelings and behaviors, and get
along with peers. In order for
children to attain the basic skills they
need such as cooperation, following
directions, demonstrating self-control
and paying attention, they must have
social-emotional skills.
Stereotype in Gender Differences

Gender stereotyping refers to the practice of


ascribing to an individual woman or man
specific attributes, characteristics, or roles by
reason only of her or his membership in the
social group of women or men. Gender
stereotyping is wrongful when it results in a
violation or violations of human rights and
fundamental freedoms.
Developing Self-esteem

Self-esteem means appreciation of one’s self


or self love, regardless of genetic potential
endowments. (Physical, mental, and emotional)

Example that can affect self esteem are:


 Families/Relatives
 Friends
 School
 Surroundings
Friendship and Intimacy

Friendship-Friendship is a relationship of mutual 


affection between people.[1] It is a stronger form of
interpersonal bond than an "acquaintance" or an
"association", such as a classmate, neighbor, coworker,
or colleague while Intimacy-is an 
interpersonal relationship that involves physical or 
emotional intimacy.[1]Although an intimate relationship
is commonly a sexual relationship,[2] it may also be a
non-sexual relationship involving family, friends, or
acquaintances.

Identity Issues

The active search which adolescents


engage in to try to gain anew
understanding of self along sexual,
occupational, religious, political self
image is referred to as identity issues.
Phases of Identity Status

1. Identity Foreclose- this is the case of an adolescents who is a


follower, finding security in others not in his/her self.
>Identity foreclosure is a stage of self-identity discovery in which an
individual has an identity but hasn't explored other options or ideas.
2. Moratorium- This is the case of an adolescents searcher.
3. Identity Achiever- The point where the adolescent find
himself/herself.
4. Identity Diffusion- the case where adolescent failing to find
himself/herself.

Promoting of Sense Identity

Ingredients that make up an optimal sense of personal


identity are:

1. Inner confidence about self competence and ability to learn


and master new tasks;
2. Ample opportunity to try out new roles either in one’s fantasy
or in actual practice, and;
3. Support from parents and adults.
