This preliminary activity encourages people to think creatively and explains how the
system can be improved and gives a description of what is proposed as a concept of
possible solutions to improve the system.

Consider Pre-existing Solutions
Identify, review, and present existing solutions with the potential to meet demanding requirements

Purpose: to consider pre-existing solutions that could potentially meet system requirements

Input: Define requirements, stimulate ideas

Output: list of pre-existing solutions with the potential to meet demanding
requirements

Tips:
• Allow plenty of time for solution identification and review
• Ensure existing solutions meet the demands in the requirements
• Avoid fixation to encourage broader searches
Stimulate Ideas
Generation of ideas to inspire the creation of new ideas that are possible to meet the demands
Requirement

Purpose: to stimulate ideas that can lead to new concepts that meet the requirements of the system

Feedback: Define Requirements, Consider Existing Solutions, Develop Concepts,


Create Models

Tools: Storyboard, Brainstorming, Disney, Six Thinking Hats


Output: various ideas with the potential to lead to new concepts that can meet the
demands of the requirements

Tips:
• Adopt a variety of methods to encourage the generation of ideas
• Consider using tools that avoid fixation and encourage creativity
• Include all the ideas generated at this stage, filter later
Filter Ideas
Filtering ideas to generate the development of new concepts with the potential to meet
the demands of requirements

Purpose: to evaluate new ideas against the demands and desires in the system
requirements

Feedback: Consider Existing Solutions, Stimulate Ideas, Develop Concepts, Create


Models

Tool: Morphological Chart

Output: a series of ideas with the potential to lead to new concepts that meet the
demands of the requirements

Tips:
• Make sure the idea meets the demands in the requirements
• Filter ideas with desire in terms of requirements
• Record requirements related to different stakeholders
Develop Concepts
Development of new concepts with the potential to meet the demands and meet the
wishes of system requirements

Objective: to develop new concepts that have the potential to meet the requirements of
the system
