It was the civic and trade center of the city. It was
rectangular in shape and spacious and open; It was
surrounded on one side by the Temple of Jupiter,
while on the other three there was a colonnade. The
free area was 145 meters long by 38 wide and the
paving was stone. There were statues of the
emperor, of his family members or of citizens of
local importance. A bronze door was the access to the
forum, inside which carriages were not allowed and
there were tablets for the public, which had written
relevant news of the time. People could use it to
voice their complaints and even to advertise their
establishment.
MACEL
LUM
 This was a large market and had a
source of water in the center to wash
the fish that were sold in place. Its
construction was carried out at the
time of the Roman Empire and can
now be observed as it was when
volcanic eruption occurred.
EUMACHIA
BUILDING

 In this building the dyeing and


laundries of the city were housed;
Its name is due to the Eumachy
priestess. The construction was
dedicated to Emperor's wife
Augustus, Livia, and suffered
serious damage during an earlier
earthquake to the eruption of
Vesuvius; The restoration was not
very advanced when the event
occurred.
BASILIS
CA

 This was the seat of the


impartation of justice and
was one of the most
important buildings in the
city. There were five
doors opening to the u
forum and opening onto a
trio of ships inside.
