George:
Who,Where and When was Great Pyramid of Giza built?
•The Great Pyramid of Giza is a
defining symbol of Egypt and the last
of the ancient Seven Wonders of the
World. It is located in Giza plateau near
the modern city of Cairo and was built
over a twenty-year period during the
reign of the king Khufu (2589-2566) BCE,
also known as Cheops of the 4th
Dynasty.Until the Eiffel tower was
completed in Paris,France in 1889 CE, the
Great Pyramid was the tallest structure
made by human hands in the world; a
record it held for over 3000 years and
one unlikely to be broken.
Austin:
How was Giza built? And more about it.

• The oldest and largest of the three pyramids at

Giza, known as the Great Pyramid, is the only
surviving structure out of the famed Seven
Wonders of the Ancient World. It was built for
Pharaoh Khufu (Cheops, in Greek), Sneferu's
successor and the second of the eight kings of
the fourth dynasty.
• Pyramids of Giza, Arabic Ahrāmāt Al-Jīzah, Giza
also spelled Gizeh, 4th-dynasty (c. 2575–c. 2465
bce) pyramids erected on a rocky plateau on
the west bank of the Nile River near Al-Jīzah
(Giza) in northern Egypt. In ancient times they
were included among the Seven Wonders of the
World.
• Some of the oldest structures in Cairo date back
to almost two centuries BC during the Greco-
Roman period; however, the Giza Pyramids are
considered as the most famous and the oldest
structures among all other pyramids in Egypt.
Lewis:
Secret and mystery of the pyramid
• The three enormous pyramids situated at
Giza outside of Cairo were built by King
Khufu, his son, and his grandson in the
Fourth Dynasty. The largest, known as the
Great Pyramid, was built by Khufu and is
the only one of the “Seven Wonders of the
World” from antiquity that still survives.
• The Great Sphinx was excavated from a
relatively soft, natural limestone, left over
in the quarry used to build the Pyramids;
the forepaws being separately made from
blocks of limestone. One of the main
oddities about the sculpture is that the
head is out of proportion to its body.
Alfie:
What made the pyramid so special?
• The Great Pyramid at Giza is the largest
in the world, filling 13 acres at its base.
At 481 feet tall, it was the tallest
structure in the world until the advent
of modern skyscrapers. The pyramid
builders used 2.3 million stone blocks,
each weighing between 2.5 and 1.5
tons, to construct the Great Pyramid.
• Egypt's pharaohs expected to become
gods in the afterlife. To prepare for the
next world they erected temples to the
gods and massive pyramid tombs for
themselves—filled with all the things
each ruler would need to guide and
sustain himself in the next world.
Christopher:
Inside the pyramid
• The pharaoh's final resting
place was usually within
a subterranean burial
chamber underneath the
pyramid. Although the
Great Pyramid has
subterranean chambers,
they were never
completed, and Khufu's
sarcophagus rests in the
King's Chamber, where
Napoleon is said to have
sojourned, deep inside the
Great Pyramid.
