THE BIG BANG

THE FORMATION OF LIGHT ELEMENTS

•Have you ever wonder where
everything came from?
•Ever wondered how the universe
begun?
Because of technological advancement we were able to
understand more about the beginning of universe
LET’S HEAR YOUR IDEAS!!

• Present the key ideas of the big bang theory from

scratch, using the provided textual pieces.
FORMATION OF LIGHT ELEMENTS

• The lightest elements (hydrogen, helium, deuterium, lithium) were produced in the Big
Bang nucleosynthesis(creating new atomic nuclei from pre existing nucleons)

• According to the Big Bang theory, the temperatures in the early universe were so high
that fusion reactions could take place. This resulted in the formation of light elements:
hydrogen, deuterium, (two isotopes), lithium and trace amounts of beryllium
NUCLEOSYNTHESIS

D = 1 p+, 1 n T = 1 p+, 2 n 3
He = 2 p+, 1 n

4 He = 2 p+, 2 n 7Be = 4 p+, 3 n 7 Li = 3 p+, 4 n
