TEENAGE PREGNANCY

INTRODUCTION
•Teenage pregnancy is defined as a pregnancy in girls within the ages
13-19. Teenage pregnancy, also known as adolescent pregnancy, is
pregnancy in a female adolescent or young adult under the age of 20.
This includes those who are legally considered adults in their country.
The WHO defines adolescence as the period between the ages of 10
and 19 years. Pregnancy can occur with sexual intercourse after the
start of ovulation, which can be before the first menstrual period
(menarche) but usually occurs after the onset of periods. In healthy,
well-nourished girls, the first period usually takes place around the
age of 12 or 13.
PURPOSE

• To educate the young women to think carefully their decision in life for them
not to regret.
DESCRIPTION

• Teenage pregnancy is when a woman under 20 gets pregnant. It usually


refers to teens between the ages of 15-19. But it can include girls as young as
10. It's also called teen pregnancy or adolescent pregnancy. In the U.S., teen
birth rates and number of births to teen mothers have dropped steadily since
1990.
CAUSES OF TEENAGE PREGNANCY

• Lack of education
• Curiosity
• Lack of knowledge
• Family-related problems
• Addicted to sexual activities
• Peer pressure
EFFECTS OF TEENAGE PREGNANCY

• Contracting STD’S
• Premature delivery
• Delivering at low birth weight
• Depression
• Teen mothers are likely to drop out of high school
HOW TO PREVENT TEENAGE PREGNANCY?

• For adoloscents who are sexually active, using of effective contraceptives


such as condoms, birth control pills, intrauterine device or UID, injectable
birth control methods
• Have the sex talk
• Learn to respect yourself
• Safe intercourse as a safety measure
