    INTRODUCTION
    • In the past couple of weeks, we all have been hearing about the terrible economic
    state of Sri Lanka and how much the conditions have has blown out of control!
    Inflation hit a horrific 17.5%, School exams have been cancelled due to lack of ink
    and paper, Cabinet Ministers have resigned.

    • A severe shortage of foreign currency has left Rajapaksa's government unable to


    pay for essential imports, including fuel, leading to debilitating power cuts lasting
    up to 13 hours. Ordinary Sri Lankans are also dealing with shortages and soaring
    inflation.
    PHASE 1 OF DETERIORATION (CEYLON CITIZENSHIP ACT)

    Let us understand the basic , Sri Lanka is a diverse country with 3 major ethnic
    groups, 75% of the country are Sinhalese, 11% form the Sri Lankan Tamils and
    4.2% are Indian Tamils. and the problems of sri lanka started way back in 1948,
    when they came up with something called the Ceylon Citizenship Act. This act
    was specifically aimed to turn sri lanka into a land where only Sinhaleese citizens
    live!! and they did that by putting 2 important qualifiers in the act.

    • This Act granted citizenship to only to those people who had 10 years of
    uninterrupted residence in Sri Lanka.

    • whose income was above a certain stipulated level.
