SEMANGAT PAGI

SANDWICHES

The honour of naming this favourite food item

goes to the infamous gambler John Montague,
the fourth Earl of Sandwich (d 1792). According
to legend this gentleman refused to leave the
gaming tables because he didn’t want to break
his winning streak. He asked that some bread
filled with meat be brought to him and the
rage for sandwiches were on.
Sandwiches can be defined as a food item
made with either one or more layers of fillings
between breads. They are usually served hot if
the slices of bread are toasted, grilled or fried.
Ordinary sandwiches made from fresh or moist
breads are ideally served cold.
