OBJECTIVES
 Identify the components of water cycle

 Label the water cycle diagram

 Discuss the meaning of water cycle

introduction
Water constantly moves among the oceans, the atmosphere, the solid Earth, and
the biosphere. This unending circulation of Earth’s water supply is the WATER
CYCLE. This cycle is possible because water readily changes from one state to
matter- Solid, Liquid or Gas- to another at temperatures and pressure common on
Earth’s surface.

The water cycle is a gigantic worldwide system powered by energy from the sun.
the atmosphere provides the most important link between the oceans and land.
Water evaporates into the atmosphere from the ocean, and to a lesser extent from
the continents. Winds transport this moisture-rich air until conditions cause the
moisture to condense into clouds. Precipitation –rain and snow-then falls to earth.
Precipitation that falls into oceans has completed one full cycle and is ready to
begin another. However, water that falls on land must make its way back to the
ocean to complete the full cycle.
Definition of terms
EVAPORATIO
N Is the change from a liquid to a gas

CONDENSATI is the change of water from a gas

ON to a liquid. To condense is to
change from gas to liquid.

PRECIPITATI
Is the water that falls from the
ON
atmosphere
TRANSPIRATI Is to release of water vapor into the air
ON by plants.

RUNOFF Is water that flows over the surface of

the land

GROUNDWAT is pulled back up by plants and people

ER and gravity pulls water downhill as
runoff

STORE When water is being contained in one

place
“ALL THE RIVERS RUN INTO
THE SEA: YET THE SEA IS NOT
FULL: UNTO THE PLACE FROM
WHENCE THE RIVERS COME,
THITHER THEY RETURN AGAIN”
