 Definition

assistance who are facing economic hardship.

of assistance.

limited ability to work due to disability, or other
factors.

◉ Such as- Sickness ,old age,

unemployment ,invalidity ,death and maternity.
 Purpose of social security
 To give individuals & families the confidence that their level of
living & quality of life will not erode by social or economic
eventuality.

 To provide medical care & income security against the

consequences of defined contingencies.

 To facilitate the victims physical & vocational rehabilitation.

 To prevent or reduce ill health & accidents in the occupations.

 To protect against unemployment by maintenance & promotion

of job creation.
 Social Assistance
 A method to provide benefits as of
right to persons usually of small
means in amounts sufficient to
meet a minimum standards of
living from general revenues of the
state.
 Non-contributory
 Cannot be claimed as a matter of
right(provided)
 For the vulnerable groups of the
community (Childrens , Mothers ,
Invalids, Aged people,Disabled)
Social Insurance
 Method to provide benefits as a
matter of right for persons of small
earnings , in amounts which combine
the contributions of the beneficiaries
with subsidies from the employer &
the state.
 Contributory
 Can be claimed as a matter of
right
 For the well-organized , legally
regulated , financially stable
commmunity.
 Types of social security
Retirement benefits : Provide income if you retire at
the age of 60 or thereafter under social security act.

Survivor or death benefits : Provide monthly payment

to dependent regardless of your age.

Disability payments : Provide monthly

payment to employees who become totally
disabled.
