Southport

Southport • Southport is a very interesting town. It’s
a seaside resort in Merseyside. Today
this town is small with a population of
20,000 people. Southport grew up from
the end of the 18th century. At that
time staying by the sea and bathing in
seawater became fashionable among
the rich and famous and several seaside
towns were founded. Southport was
founded in 1792 when an innkeeper
named William Sutton built a bathing
house on the beach near the village of
North Meols. Later, in 1798 he built a
hotel, the South Port Hotel. Soon a
settlement grew up by the hotel.
Here I put a picture of one of the hotels

• Best things about Southport are art

shops. (They are famous for their art
shops which are very expensive).
There are many restaurants, pubs and
shops that offer good food at prices.
• There are too shopping centre outside
town and many beautiful hotels
• There was also a zoo outside the
town with many different animals,
but it was closed in 2004. Southport
Zoo was not very big zoological
garden in Southport, Merseyside,
England run by Carol and Douglas
Petrie. It was located close to the
Pleasureland amusement park. It was
home to 154 species of wild animals
and birds.

• The animal collection included lar

gibbons, chimpanzees, parrots,
African lions, mandrills, flamingoes,
giant tortoises, black-and-white ruffed
lemurs, reptiles, owls and pheasants.
• Nightlife has been reinvigorated with
new bars and cafes opening up. They
sell over 40 carefully selected drinks.
Throughout the day they have a
lunch menu. It's easy to idle away an
afternoon without realising!

Southport has also two pubs with live music -

local bands only
