OBJECTIVES
At the end of the session, participants are expected to:

TERMINAL OBJECTIVE:
Develop an Action Plan for a Learning Program.

ENABLING OBJECTIVES:
a) Define the learning program.
b) Discuss the need to conduct learning programs to address learners’
needs.
c) Design an action plan for a learning program by applying the steps in
the plan preparation.
IN-SERVICE TRAINING FOR TEACHERS 2023

Activity
A. Use the item analysis results for 1st and 2nd quarter
examinations to identify the least learned competencies by
subject area (Choose what grade level to be assessed).

1. Identify at least five (5) least learned competencies in 1 st

and 2nd quarter?

2. What are the most difficult learning competencies to
teach in the two quarters? Give at least 5 competencies.
IN-SERVICE TRAINING FOR TEACHERS 2023

Guide Questions

1. What did you realize while working on the activity?

2. Why do you think that the identified competency is difficult
to teach?
3. Why is it important to analyze the test results of the
students?
IN-SERVICE TRAINING FOR TEACHERS 2023

Why is it important to know the learning needs of our learners?

• Identifying and meeting individual learner needs boosts their morale and

encourages them. In some cases, the learner does not gain much from
mass instruction. As such, when the teacher provides individually
prescribed instruction (IPI) it significantly helps many learners to
understand and grasp educational concepts.
• One of the more consequential features of learning gaps is their tendency,
if left unaddressed, to compound over time and become more severe and
pronounced, which can increase the chances that a student will
struggle academically and socially or drop out of school.
IN-SERVICE TRAINING FOR TEACHERS 2023

How do teachers address the learning gaps?

The first step in addressing learning gaps is to identify exactly

where and what those gaps are, and which students struggle with
them. Quizzes are a quick and easy way to formatively assess
students on what they have learned. These can be mini end-of-topic
quizzes, or even one covering a few units of a subject.

Classroom Observation SY 2021-2022

Objective 11. Adapted and implemented learning programs that ensure

relevance and responsiveness to the needs of all learners.

Objective 12. Utilized assessment data to inform the modification of

teaching and learning practices and programs.

What is a learning program in school?

A learning program provides the basis for a cohesive

(coherent) and integrated learning process by outlining the
processes of learning and assessment (and it can be part of a
bigger delivery and assessment strategy).
IN-SERVICE TRAINING FOR TEACHERS 2023

How the learning program content be developed?

Ideally, a learning program should identify the following:

• its purpose (why)
• the target group (who)
• the outcomes to be achieved (what)
• the learning and assessment strategies (how)
• any required resources.

7 steps for creating a learning program

1. Measure and determine what needs to be learned

All of your students need different teaching approaches that will push them to learn
more. But before you actually create a personalized learning plan, you need to determine
what your students already know and what they’re proficient at.

2. Set achievable goals with your students

After determining what your students need to learn, you can talk with them and help
them set several personal learning objectives. Help them think of both the short- and
long-term goals that suit their personalities and interests.
IN-SERVICE TRAINING FOR TEACHERS 2023

7 steps for creating a learning program

3. Let students choose how they will learn
Developing teaching methods that encompass multiple learning styles requires you to be
highly creative. Your students also prefer different learning styles.

4. Assess frequently, evaluate, and reflect

Frequent assessments leave students with little room to be unproductive or procrastinate.
In fact, assessments often keep students motivated and engaged in their own learning. And
more importantly, completing assessments as part of achieving short-term goals can boost
students’ self-confidence.

7 steps for creating a learning program

5. Track progress in a student portfolio
Learning can be described more like a cumulative process than something that happens
instantly. When students are able to see how they’ve progressed in acquiring knowledge, it
can have a positive effect on their self-esteem. Portfolios give them the opportunity not only to
see but also track their learning progress.

6. Have a one-on-one conversation with each student

Provide students with relevant feedback, remind them to pursue their goals, and
encourage them when they fail to accomplish any of their plans. Establish good
communication with your students. Don’t make decisions for them — instead, guide them in
creating individual strategies that lead to their own success in learning.

7. Encourage students to collaborate

Creating personalized learning plans doesn’t mean your students should stop learning
together and focus only on themselves. Encourage students to be the greatest supporters of
each other. If one student struggles with a particular goal, others can jump in and lend a
helping hand. After all, teaching others is a great way to learn.

7 elements of a successful learning program

1. Address Actual Needs

2. Set an Objective
3. Get the learners onboard
4. Integrate opportunities to apply
5. Make time for it
6. Celebrate successes
7. Evaluate and Adapt

What should be the basis for selecting an intervention program?

To find an appropriate intervention, consultants must

first identify the student concern and search
available resources for interventions that address
this concern. Aspects of interventions under
consideration, including student characteristics and
contextual factors, should be investigated further.

INTERPRETATION
The post-test result of the
Remedial Program was
increased from 33.10% to
70.90%. This means majority of
the select grade 7 learners
have gained knowledge and
skills during the remedial class
conducted in four(4)
consecutive weeks. However,
there is a need for further
enhancement in order the
meet the passing rate of 75%.

Designing an intervention, and doing it well, isn't

necessarily an easy task. There are a lot of steps involved,
and a lot of work to be done, if you are going to do it well.
But by systematically going through the process, you are
able to catch mistakes before they happen; you can stand
on the shoulders of those who have done this work before
you and learn from their successes and failures.

Activity /Session Output

Create/design a learning plan based on the

identified least mastered competencies by using the
steps discussed, and incorporate the elements of a
successful learning program.

Two(2) outputs per subject area (Grade 7 & 8, Grade

9 & 10, SHS).

“What people see you do may not be

remembered; what they hear you say may be
forgotten; but how they feel your intervention in
their times of need will forever be remembered.”
