In physics, radiation is the emission
or transmission of energy in the
form of waves or particles through

RADIATION space or through a material

medium.Radiation is energy that
moves from one place to another in
a form that can be described as
waves or particles.
PURPOSE OF RADIATION

Today, to benefit humankind, radiation is used in medicine, academics, and

industry, as well as for generating electricity. In addition, radiation has useful
applications in such areas as agriculture, archaeology (carbon dating), space
exploration, law enforcement, geology (including mining), and many others.
Radiation is used to determine the
composition of materials in a
ADVANTAGE process called neutron activation
analysis. In this process, scientists
OF bombard a sample of a substance
with particles called neutrons.
RADIATION Some of the atoms in the sample
absorb neutrons and become
radioactive.
RADIATION IN AVIATION

Aircrew and passengers are exposed to

cosmic ionizing radiation on every flight. Here
you can learn more about cosmic ionizing
radiation, how you can be exposed, exposure
levels, and possible health effects.
