ADAPTIVE AND MALADAPTIVE

● A grounded theory was conducted to examine both adaptive and maladaptive type of
procrastination as according to Schraw, G., Wadkins, T., & Olafson, L. (2007). This
theory helps the researchers to expand their knowledge about procrastination and also
expand their research as it exposes them to the two types of procrastination. A grounded
theory is a data that has been systematically collected and analyzed.
● Adaptive procrastination, also known as active procrastination, is purposeful
postponement of choices or actions in order to utilize the impending deadline as
incentive to get things done. Someone whom purposely postpones working on an
important assignment because they find it more fun to work on things under the strain of
a close deadline is what an active procrastinator is.

● Maladaptive procrastination, also known as passive procrastination, refers to deferring

choices or actions owing to an inability to complete tasks on time. A passive
procrastinator is someone who puts off working on a project so much that they miss the
deadline because they are too worried and stressed to begin. Passive procrastinators do
not aim to postpone, yet they frequently wind-up deferring chores due to their incapacity
to make decisions and hence act on them promptly
●Active and passive procrastination contrast in that active procrastination includes
purposeful delay that results in good emotional and behavioral consequences, whereas
passive procrastination involves involuntary delay that results in negative emotional and
behavioral outcomes. Active procrastinators are tenacious and capable of finishing
projects at the last minute. Passive procrastinators, on the other hand, are more prone to
abandon their tasks.
