The Four Factors:

Budget
Short-term community action often requires less
money, except in cases of emergency response
during calamities where a larger amount of
budget might be needed to help the devastated
population.
The Four Factors:

Resources
The resources required for the activity may
depend on the type of service provided, but it
generally takes less time to prepare and
organize. The program or activity may also
require specialized expertise in a particular field
of practice.
The Four Factors:

Impact
Short-term community action initiatives
typically have a brief and limited
impact. (example)
However, there are also instances where
short-term programs can create
sustainable outcomes. (example)
The Four Factors:

Scope
Short-term community activities occur within a
specific issue area and at a specific time period.
These types of activities typically focus on fewer
goals; hence, the evaluation procedure requires
less time. It does not require the establishment of
long-term relationships with members and
communities.

Budget Impact
Budget
Funds may come from multiple sources. Funds
are usually allocated in advance as part of the
overall budget of the community programs for
the year, in
cases where funding comes from the
government and organizations.

Resources
Long-term community action programs usually
require a variety of resources to ensure the
continuity of participation and maintenance.
These resources may come in the form of
volunteers, professionals, facilities, and
materials for the implementation and monitoring
of a project.

Impact
These types of initiatives create a larger impact
on the organization and the community. Since
organizations and communities commit for a
longer period, the initiatives guarantee more
sustainable, continuous, and consistent effects.
Depending on the time frame and the objectives
of the initiative, it may even benefit future
generations.

Scope
Since the implementation is longer, the objectives of long-term
initiatives tend to be more complex. Organizations may partner
with communities to deal with not just one issue area but
several interrelated ones. Due to the initiative’s wider scope,
these programs may
require active community participation and mobilization over
the long term. They also provide more opportunities for
community engagement.
