Global Citizenship

Is someone who is aware of and understands the wider

world – and their place in it. They take an active role in their
community, and work with others to make our planet more
equal, fair and sustainable.
• Citizenship is associated with rights and obligations, for
instance, the right to vote and the obligation to pay taxes. Both
rights and obligations link the individual to the state. It also has
to do with our attitudes. We need to be willing to engage and to
spend time and effort to the community of which we feel part of.
• To be effective Global Citizens, young people need to be
flexible, creative and proactive. They need to be able to solve
problems, make decisions, think critically, communicate ideas
effectively and work well within teams and groups.
