What is Surface Area?

Surface Area:

object.

Surface Area is the 3 dimensional version of

Perimeter. It only accounts for the OUTSIDE of the
shape.
Find the area of each face and then add them all together.
Nets

When a 3 dimensional shape is unfolded into a 2 dimensional shape, we call

this a net.
Using graph paper, draw a net of the following:

2. Rectangular Prism

Next, count the squares along each side to determine the dimensions
of each face. Find the surface area of the total shape.
Cut them out and make them
into their shapes!

Hint: You might want to leave a little bit of lip on

some sides in order to apply glue to them.
