• Late 1970’s-early 1980’s ship scrapping industry shifted to beaches of SE Asia
• Problems for owners scrapping ships continually being reported in media (Danish
Passenger ferry, Riki; French aircraft carrier, Clemenceau, cruise ship, Norway)
