Central Idea
This stanza aims to put forward an idea that the poet is facing guilt for something
he or she has done, although it is not mentioned in this poem. The use of powerful
language features give a greater impact about the guilt and sadness the poet is
going through
Poetic Devices
The rule of three, ‘The agony, the pain, the drama’ is more effective in putting
forward the idea of the tribulations the poet is going through in the poem.
Language features
Powerful verbs such as bearing, put forward the idea that the poet is undergoing
immense suffering for something that he or she has faced.
Verb phrases such as , ‘could not beleive’ show s the state of disbelief the poet is
in. This verb phrase consists of a verb and another word that further illustrates the
verb tense, action, and tone.
Use of noun phrase such as ‘looming karma’help omitted the type of trouble or
danger that is awaiting the poet
Stucture
Use of question marks such as, ‘why was bearing this guilt so difficult?’ puts forward
a question directly at the readers about something personally felt by the reader
Use of dash for example, ‘the drama - ’ creates a sudden pause in the poem, which
helps establish a moment where the reader ponders or evaluates the painful thing
the poet has to go through
Use of simple sentences such as ‘I was simply awaiting the looming karma’ shows
how the poet has given up all hope about the after consequences as there is no
way to avoid it. It is inevitable . The poet wishes to express a single thought, to
create emphasis, and to avoid being too crowded of a sentence, this also
emphasises on the point of suffering and endurance
Rhyme scheme
The rhyme scheme is ABCC and this rhyme is used specifically to engage the
reader amidst the gloomy and depressing poem.
Rhyme helps make a poem musical, A pattern of rhyme, called a scheme, also
helps establish the form. This contrast with the optimistic and downhearted plot
and tone of the poem
