The complement of A
• The complement of A which is represented
like this, A', means the elements that are not
in set A. This could go for any set not just
set A.
• For example, find A':

• A{1,2,3,4,5,6}
• B{7,8,9,10}

• Answer: A'={7,8,9,10}
Subset
• The subset is when a set is contained within
another set as well. If set A has all the
elements that set B also has then set A is a
subset of B.
• For example:
Intersection
of two sets
• The intersection of two
sets, A and B, is
represented by the region
where the two sets
intersect. Elements in this
region include elements
from both sets, A and B.
• The union of two sets is when it calls out all the elements from each set. When it is set

The union of two A union B, then the answer would be all the elements in set A and B.
• For example, find A union B:

sets • A{1,4,7,8}
• B{3,4,6,9}
Disjoint sets
• Take, for example, disjoint
sets. There are no elements
in both a and b, hence they
are represented by two sets
that do not overlap.
