II. INTRODUCTION

As the pandemic showed no sign of stopping, alternative ways of
coping with the situation resurface one after another. One of them are
the new distance learning strategies; the online, blended and modular
learning, developed by the sector of education to stop the request of
the masses to cancel the education schooling. Fearing that the time is
going to be wasted, they created this massive masterpiece, not just for
the sake of the students but also for the teachers to resume their jobs.
But the mouth of the public cannot be stopped, questions regarding
the new modalities rises up as they inquired about its effectiveness to
the student’s knowledge and whether it is indeed helpful during this
situation. Their opinions regarding this matter can be appraise as a
future base to fully consider the matter of stopping the education ,as
their say can convince the majority, provided with sufficient evidence
that these learning modes are not helpful and is just a waste of effort.
Conventional campus-based universities struggle to build and/or expand
sustainable distance learning provision ( Lentell, 2005).Distance delivery can
have a very positive impact on recruitment but that the quality of the
students’ experience depends upon the capacity of the organization to
support course development and delivery (Duranton, 2012). “Online learning
occurs in response to distance education” (Malithong, 2005: 203). Many
higher education institutions are seeing the move on to e-Learning that had
saved cost by merging traditional courses with online learning innovations
(Selim, 2005; Rudes-tam & Schoenholtz, 2010: 370). It will be interesting to
see how the increased use of online learning will fully affect distance
education enrollments in institutions (Ba tes, 20 05: 13-1).
With varying sides to this matter, this study was conducted to fully see the
effectiveness of this new learning strategies and to deliver a first-hand
information to the public. To fully pry informations regarding this matter, this
study conducted an in-depth interview to the students of Grade 12 HUMSS of
Samar College Inc. as they have already experience a full year using these new
modalities and have the sufficient knowledge to fully answer our questions. As
the pandemic is still raging, a face to face confrontation is not possible, thus an
alternative way was used, we performed the interview in an online app called
“Messenger”.
Unsurprisingly, their responses and reviews are also divided into two
factions, the positive and negative sides. Thus, this study can be seen as
a reference for the teachers to combine new ways of providing
knowledge while using these new modalities as these modes are also
helpful to the students in some ways, this study can also act as a base for
future researchers to help them in providing explanations when
encountering a similar situation.
Hypothesis

Everyone is affected with the appearance of COVID-19 Pandemic especially

the learners, due to this, the sector of education proposed new learning
strategies which contain three modalities. Through these, every learners can
resume their study without the need to fear of contacting the virus. In response,
this study is designed to assess the following hypothesis for this subject:

1. There are advantages and disadvantages that these current learning strategies
have on the students of Grade 12 HUMSS.

2. These strategies are not suitable for some students.

3. The effectivity of this learning strategies is between high and low

Statement of the Problem

With the present inconveniences of having face-to-face classes, the

sector of education incorporated new learning strategies to their
education system and introduced them to the students.
This study aims to know the effectiveness of these current learning
strategies to Grade 12 HUMSS of Samar College during the school year
2021-2022.
Specifically, this study sought answers to the following questions:
1. What are the pros and cons of the Current Learning Strategies?

2.  How does the Current Learning Strategies affect the students?

3.  What are the benefits of the Current Learning Strategies?

4. Is there any challenges at the Current Learning Strategies?

Scope & Limitations of the Study

This study determines the effectivity of the current learning

strategies on the Grade 12 HUMSS students of Samar College Inc.
Out of all the participants, 50 students were chosen as a sample in
conducting the survey. The researcher’s engagement are limited to
an on-screen survey with the respondents  with the help of an
online platform.

Additionally, this study employed qualitative method to probe and

explore the insight of the students with the effectiveness of the
current learning modes.
Lastly, the study was conducted during the month of October in
Samar College, Catbalogan City, school year 2021-2022.
