MAHANGO CORE AREA

Introduction
• The Mahango Game Park (the official name is
Mahango Core Area) is situated on the
Bwabwata National Park in Kavango East.
• It’s designated as important wild bird area.
• The MEFT object is to conserve the
endangered species or rare species.

Flora
• 38% of the vegetation is shrubland, while 62% is
grassland. These include baobab trees, jackal
berries, knob thorns, kiat, zambezi teak etc.

Fauna
• There are 99 documented species of
mammals. These include hippo, elephants,
buffalo, tsetsebe, lechwe, sable, wildebeest
etc.

attacked by a crocodile at the center.

Three buffalo were destroyed to the law
enforcements officers which were helping on
anti-poaching.

VISITING COMMUNITIES
1. Meeting at Mwitjiku Village
The meeting was all about building a lodge,
the community members had a meeting with
the MEFT where to build a community lodge.

2. Visiting Biro Village
The main reason for visiting was to monitor the
behavior of a hippopotamus which attacked a
boat at Biro Village.
The scene was reported after three days.
No solution was brought up.

3.Visiting Mwitjiku Village
The meeting was all about the building a
water tank at the village, since there are a lot
of reports about human wildlife conflict
recorded at this village.

1. To MEFT

• To put an electical fence on the park.


• To remove some of the dangerous species
from communI ties to the parks

Modules must base on practical than theories.
CONCLUSIONS
• To conclude,the field attachment was
excellent. Some repeated issues mentioned
need more research on how to solve them.
Some of the recommendations given will
help to solve some issues.
