Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 in relation to Section 56 thereof, and in
consultation and coordination with the Department of Health (DOH),
Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and other agencies
in drug control, treatment and rehabilitation, the following Guidelines in the
implementation of the Aftercare Program for Recovering Drug Dependents
are hereby prescribed.
 DDB Regulation # 1 series of 2006: GUIDELINES IN THE
IMPLEMENTATION OF THE AFTERCARE PROGRAM FOR
RECOVERING DRUG DEPENDENTS
WHAT IS AFTERCARE PROGRAM
 An Aftercare Program (ACP) refers to services that help
recovering drug dependent persons to adapt to everyday
community life, after completing earlier phases of treatment
and rehabilitation
 It provides an opportunity to address important issues and
problems associated with abstinence and recovery
 provides a safe environment for continued support till it is no
longer needed
 facilitates the client’s reintegration to the community and
prevents relapse into drug dependency
 Duration:12 months
RELAPSE PROTECTION AND RECOVERY PLAN
• Aftercare is a vital part of the recovery process
• 40% of those who obtain help will relapse within the
first year,
• first three months being the most crucial
• addiction is a relapsing disease and that recovery is a
lifetime process
• To ensure effectivity of the program, random drug
tests are taken every month
OBJECTIVES

Abstinence
Relapse prevention
Preparation for reintegration
to mainstream society
FOCUS
Client
• Treatment does not end when a person graduates
from a program or is discharged from a facility.
• Such formal treatment only forms the foundation of
a recovery process that should continue for the rest
of the RDD’s life.
Family
– recovery can be successful if the family supports a
plan for ongoing sobriety
– family involvement is a must during treatment.
– Must actively be involved in recovery plan
RECOVERY AND RELAPSE PREVENTION PLAN

• the core of every aftercare program

• It is a dual approach targeting the client
and the family and must be:
 well-balanced,
 holistic, and
 comprehensive, addressing every area
of a person’s life
Recovery and relapse prevention plan includes
6 life areas as follows:
1. Physical - nutrition, exercise, rest and relaxation.
2. Mental - utilizes reading materials, attending live lectures,
meetings in support groups (like Narcotics Anonymous),
reinforcements in healthy thinking and putting good
thoughts into the mind.
3. Emotional - emotional recovery does not happen in
isolation. Emotional health requires group sessions where
feelings can be identified, expressed and managed.
4. Social – choice of friends
Negative social experiences must be countered by providing positive
alternatives as a family.
5. Spiritual –the guilt, shame, remorse are resolved. Finding purpose
and meaning is a good personal mission which the client (and family)
can initiate.
6. Productivity - “an idle mind is the devil’s playground”.
 unproductive are the best candidates for relapse
 school or work, dependents must establish a sense of usefulness
and busyness
 best avenue towards self-esteem
