•The term "logistics" comes from the Greek word "logos“ and the Greek work "logistiki”
•However, some other authorities claim that the word ’Logistics’ is derived from the French
word ‘loger’.
•It is agreed that Logistics originated from the military's need to supply themselves with
arms, ammunition and rations as they moved from their base to a forward position.

services, and related information from point of origin to point of
consumption for the purpose of conforming to customer
requirements.”
• Logistics is basically a process of transporting goods (either raw
material or finished products) from one point to another point. The
two major functions of logistics
are transportation and warehousing
