PLEASE LOOK AFTER YOUR EYES AS WELL
DRY EYE SYNDROME
WE are at an increased risk of developing dry eye syndrome because of the close-up work needed to
perform most hours a day. In order to focus on the teeth, the eyes come together, the pupils constrict, and
the blink rate reduces.
Normally, we blink fifteen times per minute on average, but with the patient work the blinking reduces
approximately five times per minute. The oil glands that help lubricate the eyes are underperforming when
blinking less, and this will irreversibly wither over time.
The common symptoms of dry eye are excessive tearing, burning, fluctuating vision, sensitivity to light,
and contact lens intolerance. It is possible to regularly alleviate some of these symptoms using quality
artificial tears and switch to disposable contact lenses. Keeping the eyes comfortable with the use of dental
loupes and near magnification
Humans tend to slowly lose the ability to focus close up after the age of 40. The eyes
work harder, and the ability to accommodate is lost. Dentist over the age of 40 would find
dental loupes very useful for the optimum comfort level it provides while working and
also save you from the added eye strain
