What is teaching?

Teaching is the process of imparting knowledge,

skills, and values to students through various
forms of instruction. It involves the use of
educational materials, teaching methods, and
strategies to facilitate learning and promote
academic and personal growth.

the challenges the 21st Century

Facilitator of learning:

 Teachers should act as facilitators of learning by creating an

environment that fosters student-centered learning, encourages
critical thinking, and promotes problem-solving skills. For
example, a teacher can use project-based learning to encourage
students to work collaboratively to solve real-world problems.
Te c h n o l o g i c a l f a c i l i t a t o r :

 Teachers need to incorporate technology into their teaching

practices to ensure that students are familiar with the latest
technologies and can use them effectively. For instance,
teachers can use online platforms and tools to deliver lectures
and create interactive learning experiences.
Mentor and Role Model:

 Teachers can serve as mentors and role models to students by

providing guidance, advice, and support to help them overcome
challenges and achieve their goals. For example, a teacher can
provide career guidance to students to help them choose the
right career path.
Cultural Ambassador:

 Teachers should be aware of diversity in their classrooms and

should promote tolerance and understanding of different
cultures. For instance, a teacher can incorporate multicultural
literature and resources in their curriculum to help students
understand and appreciate different cultures.
Assessment and Evaluation:

 Teachers should regularly assess and evaluate students’

progress to ensure that they are meeting the learning
objectives. For example, a teacher can use formative
assessment techniques such as quizzes and class discussions
to monitor student progress.
Curator:

 As a curator, the teacher selects and organizes learning

materials, resources, and technology tools to help students
learn in a personalized, engaging, and interactive way. For
example, a teacher might create a learning playlist on a
platform like YouTube, where students can access a range of
videos, podcasts, and other resources related to a particular
topic.
Adaptor:

 As an adaptor, the teacher must adapt their teaching strategies

to meet the diverse learning needs of students. For example, a
teacher might use differentiated instruction to accommodate
students with different learning styles or needs. This might
involve providing different materials, resources, or activities to
help students learn in the way that works best for them.
Coach:

 As a coach, the teacher provides students with feedback, sets

goals, and challenges them to reach their full potential. For
example, a teacher might use a learning management system
like Google Classroom to track student progress and provide
regular feedback on their work. They might also set goals with
students and work with them to develop a plan for achieving
those goals.
Innovator:

 As an innovator, the teacher explores new teaching methods,

tools, and techniques to engage students and promote learning.
For example, a teacher might use gamification to make learning
more fun and engaging, or they might use virtual reality to
provide students with immersive learning experiences.
Researcher:

 As a researcher, the teacher continuously seeks new knowledge

and insights into teaching and learning to improve their
practice and enhance student outcomes. For example, a teacher
might attend professional development workshops or
conferences, read research papers or educational books, or
collaborate with other educators to share best practices and
strategies.
Emphasis on Action:

 Teachers in the 21st century confront the challenges opened up

by globalization. Teachers should introduce students to their
real world, and moreover inculcate in them a sense of their own
power to create change in the world. Teachers should not just
transmit knowledge to students; they should instill in them a
sense of their place in the larger world, and urge them to be
active participants in it.
E m p h a s i s o n Te c h n i q u e s :

 Teachers in the 21st century should be knowledgeable and

willing to apply such research to their classroom. They should
understand different learning styles and be able to identify the
learning styles of the students.
A teacher help students develop digital
literacy skills:

 This includes teaching them how to use technology effectively

and safely, as well as how to evaluate and analyze information
from digital source.
A teacher help students develop
critical thinking and problem-solving
skills:

 This involves creating a learning environment that encourages

student to think creatively and develop their own solutions to
complex problems.
A teacher have the responsibility to
promote cultural responsibility and
global awareness:

 This involves exposing students to diverse perspectives and

experiences, and teaching them to respect and appreciate
different cultures and backgrounds.
A teacher prioritize the development of
social and emotional skills in their
students:

 This includes helping them build positive relationships with

others, develop empathy and emotional intelligence, and
manage stress and anxiety.
