A number of phrases are used to express sufficiency or excess. However,


the most common one is TOO/ENOUGH.
For example:

This soup is too hot for me to drink (excess)


I am tired enough to go to sleep all night (sufficiency)
To Express Sufficiency or Excess

We can use following expression:

“Too” means excessively when it is used before adjective. E.g


hot, cold, small, and large.

“Enough” means sufficiency when it is used after adjective.


E.g long, short, cheap, and expensive.
To Express Sufficiency or Excess

For Example
• It’s too cold to go outside • Munandar is qualified enough
• This book is too difficult to to have that job

TOO is different with TO

TOO + Adjective (Conveys the idea of excess)

TO is use in preposition and infinite from of verb

Theres not enough room. Theres too much space

Cultural Awareness

Besides the word “TOO”, the word “VERY” also can be used to describe
excessive.

Excessive is an adjective which means greater than what is normal or


necessary. According to the Oxford Dictionary, excessive has similar
meaning to extreme.
Cultural Awareness

Important to note!
The use of ‘too’ also indicates a value judgment,
often disapproval.
e.g
He smokes too much
While, the use of “very” is not. It only indicates a
great quantity
