“AFFECTIVE

ASSESSMENT”
 Affective assessment is a measurement of a student’s
attitudes, interests, and/or values.
 As noted by Popham, “The reason such affective variables as
students’ attitudes, interests and values are important to us is
that those variables typically influence future behavior.  The
reason we want to promote positive attitudes toward learning
is because students who have positive attitudes toward
learning today will be inclined to pursue learning in the
future.

1.RECEIVING – refers to the students willingness to attend to
particular phenomena or stimuli (classroom activities, textbook,
music, etc.)
Example- listens attentively to teacher, shows awareness of the
importance of learning. attends closely to the classroom activities.

2.RESPONDING- refers to active participation on the part of the


student. At this level he not only attends to a particular phenomenon
but also reacts to it in some way.
Example- responds to the teacher’s question.
 3.VALUING- is concerned with the worth or value a student
attaches to a particular object, phenomenon, or behavior.
Example- demonstrates problem solving attitude. Appreciate
good literature. Supports ideas to improve proficiency.

 4.ORGANIZING- concerned with bringing together values,


resolving conflicts between them, and beginning the building of
an internally consistent value system. Thus the emphasis is on
comparing relating and synthesizing values.
Example- spends more time in study than sports. Prioritize time
effectively to meet the needs of the study, family, and self.
Understand and accepts own strengths and weaknesses.
 5.CHARACTERIZATION BY VALUE – the individual
has a value system that has controlled his behavior for
suffiently long time for him to develop a characteristic
lifestyle. Thus behavior is pervasive, consistent, and
predictable.
Example- shows self-reliance when working
independently. Cooperates in group activities .
“AFFECTIVE VARIABLES IN LEARNING”
1. ATTITUDES – a persons reaction whether negative or positive,
favorable or unfavorable toward and object, activity, person, or
environment.
2. VALUES AND BELIEFS – values are characteristics or traits that a
person holds in high importance while beliefs refers to our convictions or
opinions we hold to be true even without evidence
3. INTEREST – psychological state that draws a person’s attention to an
object, idea, or event.
4. MOTIVATION – an inner drive, impulse, emotion , or desire that moves
one to a particular action.
5. SELF-CONFIDENCE –how a person feels about his/her abilities to
accomplish a task or reach goal.
