Part B
3.0) Introduction:
CNG stands for compressed natural gas, which is a clean
and efficient alternative fuel for automobiles. A CNG kit is a
system that can be installed in a gasoline-powered vehicle to
allow it to run on CNG. The kit typically includes a CNG tank, a
regulator, a fuel injector, and other components that are necessary
for the conversion process.
1. Pressure Regulator
2. Petrol Solenoid Valve with manual override switch. (It
stops petrol flow when operating on CNG)
3. On-Off valve and refueling connector. (It opens or stops
gas flow to the regulator and includes a refueling
device)
4. Control Module/Change-over Switch (It is an electronic
control component with fuel selection switch)
5. CNG level Indicator (LED Indicator)
6. Gas Air Mixer
7. CNG cylinder with valve, vapor bag & bracket
8. Petrol hose
9. Low-pressure gas hose
10. Ignition advance processor
11. High pressure gas tube
12. Wire harness
13. NRV in petrol return line
14. Pressure gauge
Maintenance
Precaution
Our safety is in our hand. Though CNG is one of the safest fuels, it
we need to check the safety parameters carefully and should
follow the set safety standards.
1. In case of leakage in fuel system, vehicle shall not be parked
within 6 meter of any source of ignition or fire
2. In case of vehicles undergoing repairs involving welding, or
heat application to any part, the cylinder should be emptied
first
3. Supplier’s kit manual should be observed and carefully
examined.
4. Always use CNG cylinder by authorized company. Do install a
LPG, Propane or any other cylinder in place of a CNG
cylinder. It is not only illegal but also dangerous to life and
may lead to fatal incidents.
5. Users of CNG kit must study the manual given and should
know about the system. It is necessary to reduce casualties and
damages during any fire breakdown.
6. The CNG kit installed in the vehicle should be insured along
with vehicle accessories
7. As per present government regulation the pollution checks and
a pollution certificate is mandatory even after converting the
vehicle on CNG
Benefits
CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) is considered as the safest
and greenest fuel. There are many benefits of using CNG.
A) Environmental Benefits
1. CNG does not have impurities, Sulphur (S) or Lead (Pb)
2. It has very low levels of polluting gaseous emissions
3. It’s molecular structure compactness prevents the reactive
processes which lead to the formation of Ozone (O3) in the
troposphere.
B) Safety Benefits
1. CNG is lighter than air and hence disperses quickly without
any dangerous accumulation
2. CNG is unlikely to auto-ignite on hot surfaces, due to high
auto-ignition temperature (540 °C)
3. It has narrow range of flammability (5%-15%), it means that if
CNG concentration in the air is below 5% or above 15%, it
will not burn.
C) Economical Benefits
1. CNG is "pocket” friendly gas. It is cheaper to any
conventional fuel
2. CNG enhances the mileage of vehicle
D) Technical Benefits
1. CNG allows greater performance compared to petrol because
of very high antiknock power (more than 120 ON)
2. It has no evaporation leaks and spills of fuel, both during
refueling and feeding of the car.
3. Its combustion produces a very low quantity of carbon
deposits (permits a longer life of lubricant oil, spark plug,
piston drum, valves & other components)
