Procedures for conducting 5s
internal audits
1)Sort

2)Set in order

3)Shine

4)Standardize

5)Sustain
Sort
The first step is Sort, or 整理 (seiri). This step
involves removing all unnecessary items from the
workspace. This includes anything that is not being
used regularly or stored elsewhere. The goal is to have
only the essential items in the workspace to be easily
accessed when needed.
Set in order
The second step is Set in order, or 整頓 (seiton).
This step involves arranging the remaining items
efficiently. This might include labeling items,
organizing them by frequency of use, or storing them
in a logical order. Again, the goal is to have a system
in place so that everything can be found quickly and
easily.
SHINE

The third step is Shine, or 清掃 (seiso). This step

involves cleaning the workspace and equipment. This
includes dusting, sweeping, and mopping. Again, the
goal is to have a clean and safe work environment.
Standardize

The fourth step is Standardize, or 規格化 (seiketsu). This step involves

maintaining the first three steps on a regular basis. This might include
setting up a cleaning schedule, creating labels and signage, and
establishing procedures for putting things away. The goal is to have a
system in place so that the workspace is always clean and organized.
Sustain
The fifth step is Sustain, or 維持 (shitsuke). This step
involves making the system a part of the organization’s
culture. This might include training new employees on the
system, holding regular meetings to review the system,
and creating incentives for following the system. The goal
is to have the system become a natural part of how the
organization operates.
