BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
• THE CASE STUDY WAS CONDUCTED AT THE COREON GATE CAFÉTERIA. THE CAFETERIA IS A SINGLE
STOREY STRUCTURE WITH SPACES FOR LAUNDRY SHOP AND INTERNET RENTING SERVICES AND IS
LOCATED AT TEODORO SAN LUIZ ST. PANDACAN, MANILA. THE CAFÉ ALSO SERVES AS A WAITING AREA
FOR THEIR CUSTOMERS WHO ARE WAITING FOR THEIR LAUNDRY TO GET FINISHED AND FOR THOSE WHO
ARE WAITING FOR VACANT SLOTS IN THE INTERNET SHOP. THESE BUSINESSES ARE SINGLE-OPERATED.
THE CAFÉ IS SERVING DIFFERENT KINDS OF DRINKS AND FOOD AND BY JUST AVAILING ATLEAST ONE OF
THEIR PRODUCT, YOU ARE GIVEN THE PRIVILEGE TO STAY INSIDE THE CAFÉ FOR LONG HOURS. THIS
PRIVILEGE ATTRACTS A LOT OF USERS. CONSIDERING THESE BULK OF USERS, WE HAVE CHOSEN THE SITE
FOR IT TO BE MAXIMIZED WHEN IT COMES TO GIVING RELAXING AMBIANCE TO THE USERS BY USING
PROPER ASSESSMENT OF LIGHTING DESIGN.
GOALS OF THE STUDY
• TO MAXIMIZE THE RELAXING EFFECT GIVEN BY THE LIGHTING FIXTURES IN THE SPACES WITH PROPER
INTEGRATION OF LIGHTING DESIGN

• TO REPLACE AND IMPROVE EXISTING LIGHTING FIXTURES WITH A MORE APPROPRIATE LIGHTING
DESIGN INSIDE THE INTERIOR

• TO IMPROVE DULL SPACES THAT CANNOT BE REACH BY NATURAL LIGHT WITH THE USE OF ARTIFICIAL
LIGHTING FIXTURES
OBJECTIVES
• VISIT THE SITE AND IDENTIFY THE EXISTING LIGHTING FIXTURES USED INSIDE THE CAFÉ
• EXPERIENCE THE AMBIANCE OF THE INTERIOR BY STAYING AT THE CAFE FOR LONG HOURS
• DEFINE THE REACH OF NATURAL LIGHT DURING DAY TIME
• REQUEST OR DRAW THE AS BUILT FLOOR PLAN TO IDENTIFY DULL SPACES INSIDE THE CAFÉ
• DRAW ON-SITE THE REFLECTED CEILING PLAN OF THE CAFÉ IN ORDER TO PROPERLY ASSESS THE EXISTING

RECOMMENDATIONS
• IMPROVE THE LIGHTING DESIGN ON DULL AREA BY INSTALLING ADDITIONAL COVE LIGHTS AND DROP
LIGHTS TO ILLUMINATE THE AREA.

• IMPROVE THE AMBIENT EFFECT OF THE CEILING BY PUTTING COVE LIGHTS TO THE EXISTING SUSPENDED
CEILING.

• PROVIDE METAL CEILING SLATS ON THE OPEN CEILING TO DIFFUSE THE COVE LIGHTS FOR BETTER CEILING
AMBIANCE.

• PROVIDE CABINET STRIP LIGHTS AS SUBSTITUTE FOR THE EXISTING SPOT LIGHTS USED IN THE STORAGE
ROOM.
RECOMMENDATIONS
CONCLUSIONS
CAFETERIAS ARE TODAY’S TREND IN BUSINESS. IT ATTRACTS USERS WHO WANTS TO
STUDY, RELAX AND THOSE WHO JUST WANT TO SPEND THEIR SPARE TIME IN A PEACEFUL
AND RELAXING ENVIRONMENT SUCH AS CAFETERIAS; WE RESEARCHERS HAVE
CONCLUDED THAT IN ORDER FOR US TO PROPERLY DESIGN A CAFETERIA, THE MAIN
FOCUS SHOULD BE ITS VISUAL AND CALMING EFFECT TO ITS USERS. RESEARCH AND
PROPER INSTALLATION OF APPROPRIATE LIGHTING FIXTURE WOULD MAKE NOR BREAK
THE TOTAL DESIGN OF THE STRUCTURE.
