CULTURE DIFFERENCES

~Sudan-Esh-Mable-Daniel-Wendy~
◦ We frequently think of rigid standards we should learn so that we don't upset people when we think about practical
examples of cultural intelligence. When greeting a stranger from another nation, for example, it's important to know
whether you should shake hands, bow, hug, or kiss, or if a gesture like pointing is considered taboo in the country you're
visiting. Cultural "dos and don'ts" are, however, only a minor portion of cultural intelligence.

◦ Culture is a word for the 'way of life' of groups of people, meaning the way they do things. Different groups may have
different cultures. A culture is passed on to the next generation by learning, whereas genetics are passed on by heredity.
Culture is seen in people's writing, religion, music, clothes, cooking and in what they do.

-Staring of with Language

Different country speaks different kinds of languages. And some of our words (the way we pronounce it) may sound
inappropriate for others. For example-
 Culture is the customary beliefs, social forms, and material traits of a racial, religious, or social group.

‘ 빛 Bitch’ is called ‘Light/Shining’ in Korean language but ‘B*tch’ sounds really inappropriate for others.

In Chinese, ‘NE GA’ which means ‘That’ in mandarin, they also use NE GA as (uhm… so… like…) and most Non-Chinese
people keep assuming that they said the N word.

In Sweden, they say pus** and it means ‘Kiss’ which is completely normal for Swedish but not for English speakers.

In British, they say ‘Fork’ but some people might misheard it as ‘F*ck’

LGBT culture 🌈

Gay men culture

According to Hardt, homosexuality was the main term used until the late 1950s and early 1960s; after that, a new "gay"
culture emerged. "This new gay culture increasingly marks a full spectrum of social life: not only same-sex desires but
gay selves, gay neighbors, and gay social practices that are distinctive of our affluent, postindustrial society".

LGBTQ culture, as a term, is used to explain the culture of people who Culture

Bisexual Culture

Bisexuality is an attraction to more than one gender. Those who identify as bisexual feel a sexual or romantic attraction to people of a different gender as well as
their own. While this offers a basic definition, bisexual people are a diverse group. Each individual perceives their sexual orientation differently. Some may be
equally attracted to both men and women, while others have a stronger attraction toward one gender over another. A bisexual person may be in a long-term same-
sex or heterosexual relationship, or they may alternate between the two. September 23 is Celebrate Bisexuality Day. The week beginning on the Sunday before
Celebrate Bisexuality Day is Bisexual Awareness Week.

Traditional outfits

-Kimono ( 着物 / きもの ) is the traditional Japanese cloth. ‘Kimono’ means ‘thing to wear’ in Japanese.

-The hanbok ( 한복 ) is the traditional Korean cloth. The term "hanbok" literally means “Korean clothing”.

-Sari (साड़ी) The word comes from Sanskrit and it means ‘strip of cloth’. It’s popular in many Asian countries such as India, Nepal,
Pakistan and Malaysia.

-Burmese national costume is the longyi (လုံ ချည်). It is worn by both males and females nationwide.

-Hanfu (simplified Chinese:  汉服 ) (traditional Chinese:  漢服 ) is the traditional styles of clothing worn by the Han people in
China. Hanfu also includes several forms of accessories, such as headwear, footwear, belts, jewellery and handheld fans.

Traditional Thai clothing is called (chut ชุดไทย), which literally means 'Thai outfit'. It can be worn by men, women, and
children.

-The true measure of someone’s cultural intelligence isn’t necessarily how much they’ve traveled or
how many different cultures they’ve studied. Instead, a more important factor is how well they understand
their own culture, the one(s) they grew up with or have spent considerable time immersed in.

-Culturally intelligent people understand what makes their own culture unique, how it influences their way of
seeing the world, and how it can impact the way they judge and interact with people who are different. In other words, cultural intelligence begins with
cultural awareness, and the best place to start is by becoming more aware of your own culture.
