we thank you for this day.

Please be us as we start our

lesson for today. Please help
and guide us on studying our
lesson for today. for those
student that are not here,
please relieve them on what
problem that they have. So,
they can join us later on we
our next lesson. In our
reigning king Jesus.

The Elimination Method

In the elimination method, we eliminate any one of the variables

by using basic arithmetic operations and then simplify the equation to
find the value of the other variable. Then we can put that value in any
of the equations to find the value of the variable eliminated. For
example:

2x+y=5
3x+3y=15
Solves problems involving systems of linear
equations in two variables
Translating an application to a mathematical setup
using two variables, then we need to form a linear
system with two equations.
Example:
The sum of two numbers is 40 and their difference is
8. Find the numbers.
EXAMPLE:
The sum of 9 times a larger number and
twice a smaller is 6. The difference of 3
times the larger and the smaller is 7. Find
the numbers.
EXAMPLE:
A farmer raises cows and chicken. The farmer
has total of 42 animals. One day, he counts the
legs of all his animals and realizes he has a total
of 114 legs. How many cows and chicken does
the farmer have?
SEAT WORK
1. The sum of two positive integers is 48. When twice the smaller integer is
subtracted from the larger, the result is 12. Find the two integers.

2. The sum of two integers is 74. The larger is 26 more than twice the smaller.
Find the two integers.

3. The sum of two integers is 45. The larger is 3 less than three times the
smaller. Find the two integers.

4. The sum of two numbers is zero. When 4 times the smaller number is added
to 8 times the larger, the result is 1. Find the two numbers.

5. The sum of a larger number and 4 times a smaller number is 5. When 8 times
the smaller is subtracted from twice the larger, the result is −2. Find the
numbers.

than three times the smaller.
2. The sum of two numbers is 15. The larger is 3 more than
twice the smaller.
3. The difference of two numbers is 7 and their sum is 1.
4. The difference of two numbers is 3 and their sum is −7.
5. The sum of two consecutive even integers is 46. Find the
integers.
