MOTT LOCKHART TABLE TENNIS
BACKBOARD SKILL TEST
(PROPOSED BY JANE A MOTT & AILEEN
LOCKHART IN 1964)
PURPOSE –
 Thetest has been constructed for the
measurement of table tennis skill ability from
one’s expertise to rally a table tennis ball against
an upright surface(TT table).
RELIABILITY-
 A reliability efficient of 0.98 has been reported for this
skill test.

VALIDITY –

o The validity efficient has been reported to be 0.81. the test


is recommended as valid for both boys and girls of
secondary school.
EQUIPMENT FACILITIES-
 A stop watch, TT balls, paddle, TT table
TEST ADMINISTRATION-
 Participants are informed that they are required to rally
the ball against the upright surface of the table.
 Ball must made to hit higher to six inch net line.

 To start the test, ball is put into play by bouncing it on


the table.
 Ball must bounce atleast once on the table surface
before returned ( shouldn’t be volleyed).
 when ball goes out of control, extra balls in box
attached right side of table can be used.
 Subjects are informed that they are not allowed to place
his/her hands on table.
 Subject has to stand at the end of table holding a
paddle and a ball in either hand.
 On signal ‘ready go’ the subject bounce the ball
and starts the test while the tester starts the stop
watch.
 Exactly after 30 seconds, signal stop is given,
simultaneously stopping the stop watch.
SCORE-
 The number of right hits ( i.e. above the 6 inch
high net line) are counted by the tester.
 3 trials of 30 second
